Doing some hypotheticals on Eagle gearing choices between 11spd, old eagle and new eagle, and it just goes to show how insane a 52t granny is. Wish they made the teeth jumps bigger in the mid range and added a step between 42-52

52T is pure and simple oneupsmanship. Shimano did 12 speed right with their gearing, one of the reasons I swapped from SRAM.

I dont know man, just went out there and threw my bike up cause I was curious. Pic below is with the rear wheel withing a couple inches of the cab. I think most people who run the bike above the bed remove the front wheel and use a fork mount. Bike are so damn long these days. (don't judge me for not having cleaned the Pisgah mud off the bike by now)

Fair point. Doing the math, I was fine for the most part on 11spd with just a few places on a long grind I wish I had a little extra. Comparing gear ratios, 36T Eagle gets me the same bottom end, but a whole extra go fast gear. @ginseng27 maybe I'll set the MTB speed record on the Millcreek road bomb at the end of Crest. :D How was it this weekend?

I've been very happy with XT. The pie plate let me outclimb a fitter, younger, but slightly less handsome man up the back of Cedar Rock this weekend @honda50r

plenty of options for you then!

Laguna Beach has a bunch of options, the Coast Wilderness Park, on either side of Laguna Canyon Road, has a bunch of options. or Lake Forest at Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park, up to and around Santiago Truck Trail and the Luge.

If you want to drive farther, Snow Summit Bike Park has lift service, or you can do Santa's Village for pedal powered laps.

The San Gabriel Mountains have several options as well, including my long time and local favorite, Marshall Canyon and Claremont Hills Loop, or Mount Wilson DH shuttle if you want something sketchy and technical.

Box 11 speed still makes the same 42-50 jump. Plus I already have the eagle stuff so I'm really just playing with chainrings.

I like the shimano step intervals better, but not enough to change over a drivetrain, driver, etc.

Everyone sleeps on Devinci. Throw the Django on the list.

It's funny. I"m running the XT/XTR 12sp. on the Spartan, and when I swap back to the Eagle on the Django it really shows the difference in shifting quality and gear spacing. Honestly, no way I'd run Eagle anymore. Shitty thing is now I want to swap the Django over too...

I have a buddy who's thinking of trying AXS derailleur and shifter with XT cassette/chain/cranks. That sounds pretty awesome.

I would have to agree. I have 5 sets of 1Up racks. The latest 1Up rack I have has binding/sticky rails on one side. I think it's a different aluminum they are using for the rails (maybe softer aluminum than in the past) which causes it to be sticky. Cleaning up the rails with Simple Green and alcohol helps a little.

Not 11 speed silly, 9! That's definitely the route I go next.

Box 9 also makes the 42-50 jump though.

    not enough.
lol! because 40 mph down that road isn't fast enough. ;P dude. crest was primo. Saw less than 10 people on the entire trail. only one spot of snow and like 3 spots of water/mud that wasn't much of anything. looks like it might be all melted out in 2 or 3 weeks. we dropped into the canyons side and just ripped down to the parking lot.

And you loose a tooth on the bottom end. considering half this silliness is trying to win the millcreek drag race vs my normal Crest buddies, I can't give up the horsepower!

I'm doing it this Sunday with a few buddies. I'm stoked! I can hit 41mph on my Stache on 30/10T according to Strava, I can only imagine what 36/10 would get me.

I don't mind Puke Hill that much. Red Hill is the one that always gets me because of the false summit halfway through.
