The lathe is cheap, it’s every gouge, jig, rest, etc. that cost a fortune.

That's why I went cheap on the lathe, a Harbor Freight model that is a clone of the Jet 1236. One of the best value propositions out there, at least for me.

Bw s256 turbo with 3 in glass pack dumped pre axle raptor liner bed and top rails and fenderflares and rocker panels. Hunter side steps. Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
I sanded it down and it is glass smooth on everything except for a couple blocks that were just a little low and my palm sander could level everything out but we tried some stuff tonight and I strategically spilled some oil on it when I was pouring up the grease and rubbed it all in... My thought process is it will repel water just like a cast iron skillet so hopefully the wood wont warp as bad... I don't see me using it much because its only like 7x10 but live and learn

I did the same thing. I wish it had the digital rpm setting. It works well for what I do with it. I can turn a bowl if it is less than 8”, pens, small spindles, and things like that. A sharp gouge is the most important thing.

Yeah, I guess it would be a bandsaw box with no lid or drawers.

So at the FD we're doing some remodeling and the white shelf used to be a visitor coat rack. I couldn't bring myself to just throw it away so I hung it up in the basement and loaded it with some construction vehicles that my ex father in law made before he passed.

All of them are 99% wood... From the wheels to the tracks on the crane. Obviously there's some plastic for windows and lights and some strings for the crane.. but that dude was a far better and far more patient woodworker than I'll ever be.

They're HUGE! The dump truck is 9 inches tall.. the crane is almost 22 inches tall. For reference that wire shelf is a full 8 feet long!!

I have no idea what they're worth or anything.. but the loader articulates in the middle and the bucket goes up and down etc. The trailer disconnects and the dump box goes up and down. The tracks on the crane work and the boom goes up and down etc.

Just thought I'd share some other types of wood working.

Thank you! I also have an old school fire truck that he made specifically for me when I started on the FD. It's on a wooden base with a Lexan cover and not enough room to put on that particular shelf

Hard to put a $ number on stuff like that, but the detail of the pieces I'd say easy $300-500 each piece set..
