2020 TRD OFFROAD vs. 2018 TRD PRO ?

Morning everyone,
I need your advise :
Do you think I can get a brand new 2020 Tacoma Offroad 4WD with around 35k budget ?
OR
Should I get an Used 2018 Tacoma TRD Pro 4WD ? If so, how much do you think is fair for below 2018 TRD PRO 4WD ( it has clean title and ~ 30k miles on it )

Any inputs are very much appreciated . I will head to the dealer this weekend.

 

What does the OR come with? What do you plan on doing with the truck?
If you get the 2020 OR with the mid-gen refresh upgrades like cameras, electric driver's seat, LED headlights, etc (if you like them) I'd say that's worth it over an older Pro.

 

Are you going to upgrade the suspension? If so, then don't get the Pro.

The creature comforts added to the 2020 make it more appealing than the older 3rd gens.

 

Pro is really just an off-road with leather seats and a hood scoop. Go for the new blank canvas

 

I agree with the previous post. There are a lot of upgrades from 2018 to 2020. I have a 2020 trd pro and I am not certain which upgrades are also on the trd off-road but the surround camera, the new intune with apple car play, power seats, All LED front lights are excellent additions. Also I have found that modding a trd pro (especially related to suspension) is much more complicated and expensive than the OR.

 

Please elaborate.

PRO has fox shocks, OR has Bilstein.

 

2020 all the way, especially if you have ideas of possibly upgrading the suspension. CarPlay & power seat make the 2020 worth it (at least for me)...

 

For ME, I would NEVER buy a used 4WD. Never. I think there's just too many potential problems that may not even be discovered with a professional pre-purchase inspection which could cost you a LOT of $$$ to correct down the road. Ask me how I know.



Buy the brand-new truck. The peace of mind knowing the exact condition of the vehicle as well as the included warranty are WELL worth it, IMHO.

Agreed. I don't like the idea of used "enthusiast cars". Any vehicles that are often modified my the end user, unless you really know what you are looking for. You have no idea how the work was done/undone.

I plan to do road trip with some moderate offroad trails , fishing and hunting sometimes

I don't think I will do any upgrades except some minor upgrades like bed racks, lights etc.

 

MSRP starts at $34k no? Pretty sure that’s not for the 4x4. Same time, it doesn’t really sound like you need a 4x4 for what you want to do. Locker and good tires will do fine for moderate off-roading.

 

If you are a Costco member go through their auto program. In most cases you can get a vehicle for under dealer invoice.

 

Tacoma's hold value very well so a used one in many cases isn't much if any cheaper then new. Used will have a higher interest rate too.

As far as being affraid of a used 4x4 goes. Not a big deal. Guys that buy Tacoma's and modify them are the minority. Most are bought,driven ,maintained and haven't been used hard.

 

Because of the nature of the fox shocks, simple spacer lifts are virtually impossible to use. That leaves only changing the shocks with internal spacers (I really am not a suspension guru so I am unable to explain why). This is much more expensive than above shock spacers. Also most kits lift and level by adding more lift in the front to compensate for rake (back higher than front). However the trd pro is already level so the kit makes the front too high. I had to buy a kit, only use the front part, and buy rear spacers separately. The kit was 650.00 plus labor and later the rear block was 70.00 plus labor. I could have gotten a simple spacer lift level kit installed for 500.00 on the OR Bilsteins and I spent 1000.00. My only other option would have been to replace the Fox shocks which seemed ridiculous since I paid extra for the truck largely due to the expensive Fox shocks. I am very happy with the results however, just not the cost!

 

I'd say go new. Some of the upgrades on the 2020 make it worth getting. Might be hard getting for $35k OTD, but due to the current circumstances you may get lucky if you're patient.

 

These are from a Sam's Club program, much like Costco. I did not log in for the member's prices, which I think are a little lower.

 

Brand new. Heck you can travel and get a new 19 PRO around $37K+

 

Prices will be very similar between those 2. I’d get the new truck.
