They are working on renaming your state due to pressure from the anarchists. That would be a signal for me that it's time to leave.

Umm...I can't wait to see what they do about new YORK..New York was named by the British to honor the Duke of York and Albany, the brother of England's King Charles II, when New Amsterdam was taken from the Dutch in 1664. New York became the name of the state and the city...Take a guess at who brought 150,000+ slaves to the new world....

That is just the beginning of a very deep rabbit hole.

It will be interesting to see what the general public's tolerance is for such matters as we descend down the hole.

They should give me all of their money, for 2 reasons, they won't need it in their autonomous zones, and because the pictures on the bills are offensive. I am willing to travel a reasonable distance to collect said money.

I love what Condoleezza Rice said..."America was born with a birth defect, slavery" and that race will always play some part but it's far removed from what it once was...
I think all of this is a step backwards. People who had zero issues with race are like "WTF is going on here?" people who want to appear to be the white knights are like "WTF how dare you not see what's going on here.." People who want to have something to unite behind say "WTF why are you doing this to me"...and then we have At least 106 people shot, 14 fatally, in Chicago this weekend...and ZERO shits given...by any of those groups...

    Nailed it!

I have never looked at anyone any certain way because of their skin color, never even thought about it. There are plenty of good and bad people of all shades. I see people for who they are.

Bringing it up, in the way they are, is doing more harm than good in my opinion (but I may be very wrong).

    Yes and no.

Rhode Island's real name is The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. That is our state's full name - and as such, we have the longest state name (if that ever comes up in Trivia. And if the host doesn't agree, you have my permission to spray them with acid :D)

    https://www.providencejournal.com/news/20200612/petition-seeks-to-rename-ri

    But, as highlighted:
Rhode Islanders REALLY like to leave things the way they are and be their own little thing, and REALLY don't like it when someone not from RI comes in. People genuinely drive around here with their registration stickers stacking up and spread all around their license plate as a badge of honor for how long they've been here.

Question about leveraged funds, lets use NGRU since that's what is being played with a lot here...

Knowing it has the potential of being a 10-bagger or more, what is the risk of holding for a couple of years? I understand you can win big or lose big, but I doubt this thing will crash again, and if you hold through any big losses, you should come out ahead. I know that's not really the trader mentality. I am just wondering why I am not pumping a bunch of money into this thinking it will go back up to $40-$50 in a year or two (or sooner).

    Decay, Risk, and Volatility
One major factor seen in leveraged ETFs is decay. This decay is a function of the math behind having a multiplier. Let's use the example of two ETFs. The first, ABC, is an ETF that tracks the Big Index. The second, XYZ, is a leveraged ETF that returns 2x the Big Index. Both the ABC and XYZ ETFs start off trading at $10 per share. Day 1, the Big Index is up 25%. The next day, the Big Index drops 20%.

After the first day, ABC rallies from $10 to $12.50, up 25% in-step with the Big Index, while XYZ goes from $10 to $15. The second day, ABC shares give back 20% or $2.50 to close back at $10. XYZ, on the other hand, gives up twice the 20% of the Big Index, 40% or $6 to close the day at $9. Even though the Big Index and ABC ETFs are both breakeven from where they started, the leveraged ETF XYZ is down $1, trading below where it started two days before. In terms of leveraged ETFs, decay is the loss of performance attributed to the multiplying effect on returns of the underlying index of the leveraged ETFs. In the example, the decay took $1 or 10% off the performance of the leveraged ETF.

Look up ETF decay and do some reading on it. I don’t think leveraged funds are designed for long term holds for this reason.

Ahhhhh, thank you both. I think I read this not too long ago here... and that was a great explanation of it. I was racking my brain about it today, not sure why. I will do more reading about it and stick to my dividends. Every time I break away from my strategy, I get nothing but red. :rofl:Fortunately, I keep myself in check most of the time! :D

I hate watching the traders have a bunch of fun... or whatever you want to call it, but I am trying to retire in 12 years, so I think I will stick to my current plan.

Yeah I'm starting to think that might be the better play :( but I wanted a vacation! :(

My long term strict investing I don't deviate, but my monopoly money I jump around constantly. :) Figure, why not. It's either going to a work lunch/mountain bike parts, something I don't need for example - might as well play with it, maybe it will 4x and I can get a whole new MTB instead! :D

The decay doesn’t really matter if it hits your 40 in 6 months, if that’s what you are betting on.

That’s a good point, but how would the decay work along the way? I’ll admit I don’t know a lot about it, just enough to be careful.

Neither do I, been asking about this for several weeks in here. I know they aren’t for long term holds, but everyone is talking about 20-40 sell points, so if you think that, I’d guess the decay and volatility aren’t relevant. But not the type of thing I dabble in. I did buy and sell NAIL twice, but very short holds on that.
