Hello everyone, I am just wondering if anyone knows a reason as to why I could be experiencing this issue, there is signs of melting on my headlights and my taillights, both of them being aftermarket, I’m not too sure about what brand either of them are, since I bought the truck used. I’m not sure if there’s too much power to them or what, my headlights are extremely dim, and my left tail light went out when I try to break, nothing in it turns on at all. And my headlights are abnormally hot to the touch, if someone could help me figure out the issue I’d appreciate it!!

if you post pics we can help you determine the brand, maybe even what went wrong.

Spec-D is a popular aftermarket company for lights.

FWIW, A few years ago my gf at the time hit a deer in my taco and the body shop replaced one of my headlights with an aftermarket housing. It didn’t last a year before the back of the housing had melted to the bulb. Ended up sourcing a used oem headlight housing and it’s been fine since.

I would have it swapped to OEM. If you check in the 2nd Gen marketplace, there’s usually no issues finding used sets

Yeah those tail lights are hideous. Go OEM and you won’t have any melting problems again.

I’m just wondering if anyone here suspects it to be a possible wiring issue of some sort, or if too much power is going to them and that’s what is causing them to get too hot and burn out.

No, You have some crappy aftermarket light assemblies. Not saying you don't have wiring issues, but that wouldn't cause the light assemblies to melt.

Unless the bulbs are higher wattage than the oem spec then they should not use more power and in turn not generate more heat. If the bulbs are shitty quality they may create more heat and emit less light because they are less efficient but I'd guess that is not the case since incandescent bulbs are so easy and cheap to make. Lower quality or different type of plastic lens for the light assemblies can have a lower melting temp and that would be my suspicion.

what the other guys have said. sub-par quality of light housing itself but I would possibly look into getting new OEM recommended bulbs when you replace the housings. the previous owner could have put a bulb that wasn't intended to be in there. also check for any weird wire tapping in case the current melting ones were not plug-n-play connectors.

Aftermarket lights , not surprising this happened to you.

even OEM headlights had this use that they put out a recall for a few years ago. Obviously not as serious as yours but they did replace them free so I was game

From the DTRL constantly being on when the headlights weren’t, I believe right?
