I'll lay 100 to 1 odds this is what happened (seen it ):

Idiot has a dull drill bit and is trying to drill holes in structural steel.
He sees it's not cutting and what does he do?...he puts his weight behind it. Practically lays on it.
AND (critical point, this), he covers the vent slots with his gloves.
He keeps at it until suddenly he lets go and starts waving his hands around trying to get the gloves off.
Ouchie.

 

Well, what I want to do is call the guy up and find out what he was doing. Unfortunately everyone lies so there's no way for me to prove he was abusing it, unless he admits laying into the damn thing enough to cause the bearing in the back to heat up so much to melt the plastic and fuse the ends together. It could've also had one thing go wrong, causing the brushes or something to move creating excessive heat. I can only hypothesize. I'll call the guy tomorrow to find out, but most likely he's getting a new drill due to Ridgid's LSA and because I can no longer order the housing for that model
