Is this frame repairable?

Does this look like it can be repaired from a welder
It's in the middle of the frame on the bottom
Underneath the other peice there is anathor little hole
All the rest of the frame is in excellent condition.
I would have the professional welder remove and redo that other peice

 

A good weldor can repair just about anything made of metal.
I wouldn't be so sure the rest of the frame is in excellent cond, they rust from the inside out.

 

That may be a small hole but I'd venture to say a much larger portion of that frame is compromised; it'll be very thin and brittle.

Check the area above the leaf spring bracket, the front one.

 

From the looks of the picture it was repaired once already.

It was repaired by a crappy welder about 3 weeks ago

 

It was welded there about a year ago
Also the hole in the frame is closer to the front, right by where the bracket to the Catyletic converter hooks on

Or you can make your own patches based on these kits, if you can do it yourself or have a friend who can weld

 

It looks like someone tried to mig weld over the rust. You definitely need to clean down to bare metal to get a decent mig weld.

Looks like the muffler hanger in the pic, so RH side near the rear cab mount. If so, that is a nice straight section and should be pretty easy to repair. However, as said above, may be the tip of the iceberg. Check the front and rear spring brackets to frame area.

If you do make repairs further corrosion prevention inside box frame is next.

 

Do you think if I get it oil sprayed twice a year it would be good
I pay people to do it and they spray inside the holes that are made in the frame

 

no, it's already too late. Well...it will slow down the rust on what is still left of the frame and protect the repairs you do, but once the frame has started to rust through like this, it's just a constant battle to keep rust away and you just have to hope no additional rust holes will appear

Remove all the loose flaky rust first, treat rusty areas with rust converter/killer, paint over your repairs with rust metal paint (like POR15) then apply Fluid Film (both inside and out). Yes, twice a year is good.

As you cut what is bad and rusted through, take the opportunity to remove the rust flakes, chunks and debris inside the frame with compressed air. There's no point in spraying Fluid Film inside of the frame if it's full of crap in there!

 

Who ever put that patch on should have any type of welder taken away for good!!

Anything can be repaired weather it is cost effective only you know .The fact your paying Labor for everything does not bode well.

Doing this can lead to some major expense The correct way is inspect the whole frame and repair/ replace as needed .

Ask around some places will not even take this work because they are busy enough so quote a very high price though most are time and materials.

Then fuel tanks need removed due to insurance mandates adding more labor and broken parts.

These are great Trucks but do need love and attention there is a breaking point if you are no longer to do the majority of the work for whatever reason might be time for something newer .

it looks like there is some kind of undercoating applied all over the frame already!?

I can almost guarantee that "the rest of my frame is in excellent condition" is NOT true.

These things rust from the inside out, so what's on the inside is 10x worse than what you see on the outside.

Frame caps and brackets will only delay the inevitable. Only thing you can do is remove ALL the rust, inside and out, and IF there's any metal left, cap it with the brackets and soak it in fluid film.

This frame has already been "repaired" once. And I use the term "repair" loosely. This repair won't do shit for strength.

IMO, you need to start looking for a donor vehicle with an intact frame
