I stopped for gas the other day... turned the truck off, filled up and turned the key to start it. The starter turned (strong) for a good 5 to 10 seconds and nothing happened. I took the key out, put it back in, turned it and it fired right up (like it normally does).

I've owned the truck for 5 years now and that was the first and only time it's ever happened. I have a fairly new battery (Odyssey), new plugs (less than 5,00 miles on them). I'm wondering if the fuel pump might have had an issue. Any ideas on this one time hiccup?

My 2010 (2000 miles) has done it twice, randomly, not after filling up. It did it just yesterday. Funny thing is, I tried to do a search on this issue last nite and nothing came up.
It acts as if its not getting fuel (or spark) on the first crank.

I know for a fact there's a tsb for this problem on the 07's. It's called the intermittant no start tsb. I had the issue a week after purchasing my truck and took it in for the fix...hasn't happened since.

Yep...that's the one I had done. They recalibrate the ecm.

Does this TSB fix other TSB's that involve the ECM? I need to get the 1-2 shifting TSB done as well.

I'm not sure if that tsb# applies to the 2010's...

Anybody got a copy of this? I couldn't get the link under the TSB sticky to work for me.

I'm not sure either. I'm having a hard time viewing/downloading the TSB to read it.
I'll have to look into it further.

    UPDATE:

The local Toyota service department called and said they pulled some error code that shows what might be the cause of the "no start" problem I had. He said it had nothing to do with the ECU (or the TSB), but rather the sensor in the steering column that senses the key.

He said that if you quickly stick the key in and turn it, it may not have time to disable the engine immobilizer (remember we have a chipped key). He said that by me taking the key out, then putting it back in and turning it again, it "reset" and accepted the key. He suggested to just keep an eye on it. He said that by giving the key a second to "sync" after inserting it, but before turning it should correct the problem (I like a cheap fix). :D

He said that if it kept doing it, that the sensor (or a couple of other components) could be going bad and might need to be replaced, but he doubted that's the case.

That would make sense since the immobilizer cuts the fuel

    It does make sense.
I will have to be more mindful when I get in the truck. Slowing down a bit could help in all sorts of ways.

    Too few to list.
It did this on my '09. Give it a two count before starting up.

Mine 07 does it whenever Im parked on an incline. I assumed it was fuel draining out of the injection system.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. My 2010 has done this a few times in the past year.
