    Hi All,

I'm selling my Tacoma on cars.com and a person saying they are a dealer contacted me and made me an offer. I called the dealer and everything seems to be legit. They requested the payoff from Toyota Financial and my license.

I called Toyota Financial and they said usually a dealer will electronically send the funds over and they hold the funds for 3 days then release them.

The dealer was asking if today would be a good day for them to come pick it up but I was thinking all this payoff stuff would need to be completed before I say for them to come pick it up.

Any advice you guys have on this just to make sure I don't get screwed over or anything. I usually finance through my local Credit Union so financing through someone who's not here is a little confusing.

    Thanks!

If it is a reputable dealer i wouldn't be too worried. Just make sure to read before you sign.

    Wow. Already selling a 2020

Pretty sure Toyota financial isn’t going to release title if it’s a scam. Listen to their advice, they hold title and therefore “own” the truck.

As long as you can verify with the dealer then I'd say its legit. I sold my old TRD sport through Vroom and was honestly surprised at how smooth the whole process was.. They overnighted me a check for the positive equity the day the truck was picked up and handled the remaining balance with Toyota.

I would 100% wait until Toyota says you’re in the clear before handing over anything.

pretty sure if they are buying the truck out from Toyota financial... you need to sign a “release of liability” form as well.

I just went through this entire process and it was a lot more in depth then I thought.

Don't let dealer have the Tacoma until funds/payoff has been completed. Listen to Toyota Financial.
Must be letting it go cheap if a dealer is purchasing it for resale.

Simply keep your comprehensive insurance active on the truck until you get the all clear from TFS. If things go sideways you will collect a couple of thousand dollars more what you would be getting from the dealer.

Theft is theft, makes no difference to the insurance company. If you're carjacked with a gun in your face or swindled by a flim-flam artist and your truck is stolen the insurance pays.

I'm still waiting (six years now) for guy to return with my Corvette that he took for a "test ride"...Insurance paid with no problem.

Wow, your going to take bath on this one selling a 2020 model. Only private dealers i ever dealt with when i sold my 19 year old tundra to was a friend that has a repair garage and a dealers license to sell vehicles.. I thought considering the high mileage...almost 300k, and number of issues needing repaired i was given a very fair price.

It's only money. I traded my '19 Tacoma then went and bought it back 6 weeks later. Happiness has a price.

Then they must have purchased it to sell at a loss. ;)

Yeah, that must be it...they rather take a bigger loss shipping it in a different part of the country...its how those dealers make a profit and stay in business.

Lol you must not have read the thread. I bought it in the North East and had it shipped to me. The dealer that bought from me drove a couple hours and picked it up from me.

I’m not losing any money on this deal.

I actually liked the truck but didn’t care for the ride over time. If I had a ton of money I would’ve kept it for a while and just had another car for daily driving.

Also I have a problem with buying and selling new/used vehicles the past few years. I need an intervention.
