Is there a simple way to do this? Or is it not possible?

I’m trying to figure out a way to have an outfitter lock a key inside the truck. We usually do this for going on float trips. We pay an outfitter to shuttle our vehicle from the point where we put our watercraft on the river and then the truck is sitting there waiting for us at the takeout at the end of our float. With our 2015 4Runner this Was never an issue. They would just lock the key fob in the truck under the mat and we keep the extra key with us on the float. I can’t figure out a way that is simple to do this with my 2020 Tacoma. The idea of giving an outfitter some elaborate “how to lock a key in the bed of my truck” just probably isn’t going to work. Sure wish they just had a way to disable the auto key detect for the doors only.

I can lock my spare key inside my '16. With and without the engine running. I just stick the key in the door and turn it. Pretty simple.

You can if you turn the fob off. Hold down the lock button and push the unlock twice, I think. Then leave the fob in the center console.

Edit, I have never attempted to use the inside door button to lock the door, however. I know it wont let you if it detects the key, not sure what happens when it doesnt.

Yeah, the keyless entry and ignition kind of prohibit that.

Yes i do use it. Had to buy separate connectors because toyota hitch is thicker.

I've accidentally done it. Had the truck parked with my folks for a week with the fob inside and windows up. Came back and the door was locked and the keyless entry wouldn't do anything. had to get the spare to unlock the truck. So yeah, it's possible.

OK maybe I am following this thread wrong but this is what I am going to do.
I need to lock my truck up along drainage ditches-fields etc and my hands get pretty dirty/muddy at times.
I am going to get a dummy key made only for the door and leave the chipped key in the ignition and lock the doors manually. (SR model Access Cab I only have 1 door that has a key lock).
In the past I used to pull my ignition/door keys and hide them with the vehicle but they would get minute amounts of dirt on the key and eventually ruin the ignition cylinder. (Not Tacoma previous trucks).
