That is true, but the transmission itself also has a thermostat that doesn’t open up until the transmission fluid is close to the same operating temperature as the engine coolant. So, the radiator cooler really isn’t acting as a warmer, unless of course using a pin to hold the transmission thermostat open.

Just to add to this. You also need a quart of ATF because you have make up for the difference due to the new cooler. When i did mine we used about 3/4 of the quart for my cooler.

Yes, Toyota indicated which fan/clutch you have by a color on the neck, use to be green and orange. not sure what the current colors are. orange was towing package, different clutch.

some of my previous vehicles had engine oil coolers and they looked nothing like a normal radiator since they are liquid to liquid cooling.

Definitely! I would also add that you can use any type of locking pliers, aka vice grips, to pinch all rubber lines to keep fluid from running out of them. A catch like a old coffee can, or milk jug or whatever too to catch whatever comes out of the radiator ATF cooler.

Thanks, I will study up. I will only be towing around two thousand lbs. but I live in Oklahoma and tow in Colorado and South Dakota. It gets really hot here in July and August.

Also, I was wondering what version of the App I had because when I start it up it just says Torque. When I traced it back to the Play Store it says Pro so obviously I paid for this version.

Have you towed this trailer up north already behind the taco? I flat tow my 3,000lb Samurai and I am tuned with 5.29s and it’s not exactly pleasant (but not awful either). I can’t imagine towing 5,000+ lbs up there on stock gears. If you plan to tow they thing on a regular basis I would either consider regearing ASAP or just trading the taco in for a full size.

    I have a Gashole
Not yet. I picked it up about a month ago. Have hauled it locally twice now. No issues with how it hauled. Just the usual crap gas mileage. On flat road it didn't go over 2800 rpm. As long as I can keep the tranny happy, it should be fine.
I'm used to towing large horse trailers fully loaded. The weight behind me doesn't bother me as long as I have good brakes.

    This thread,

For the other medics. I used to cringe when the crew I was relieving said "You don't have to bother checking the truck, it's perfect." Whereupon I'd run out and check the truck. One time I found 5 of 8 lug nuts missing. Two studs were broken off. WTF happened, I never found out.

Only reason I ask is because I was watching a video on aisin transmissions and they were talking about the fluid warmer on the side of the housing. Apparently more and more mfgs are keeping the oil hotter to Reduce frictional losses and eek out more mpg. I was curious if there was any correlation. Thanks anyway
