What's the best way to monitor tranny temp in my 14 TRD Off Road. Heading out on a cross country trip pulling a 4000 lb TT

Get a mechanical transmission temp gauge and install the sending into the converter out line ( going to the cooler )

Doing it this way you'll see more accurate temps and will be easier to see temp spikes

Don't read transmission temps from the pan , alot of people do this for ease of installation but this doesn't give accurate temp reading

It would be easier and faster if you Google it, because there are several threads on here about its use. Pretty nifty little setup.

The Torque Pro app and BlueTooth adapter setup cost me a total of $17. Monitors all the temps perfectly.

thanks for the response. So if I am understanding correctly you can download the Torque app in the Play Store (Torque Pro?), and purchase a bluetooth device to plug into my OBD connector on my truck and this will give me what I need?

Dang, I don't have the trans temp options within my Torque Pro app. Maybe the ECU didn't get that info in a 2009? I see there is a Transmission Temp (Method 1) and Transmission Temp (Method 2) but they are not green highlighted options.

Dang, you really didn't search did you? You have to set up a custom PID which is outlined in the threads you will search.

HpTuner shows both transmission temperatures, plus about 50 other engine and trans parameters. I bought one a few months ago. It's one of the best things I've purchased for my truck.

plus, with Torque you can pull error codes and pull the elm 327 bluetooth adapter out of your truck and check your wife's, etc.... its not married to your truck like the hp tuner.

Exactly what @TnShooter said, you simply need to add 1 or 2 custom PID's to get the temps displayed.
