Keep in mind that you are doing the first thing by keeping yourself accountable. That is the hardest part. You are going into this this eyes wide open and preparation.....Now your support network will help guide you.

We in the program have a saying, "take them as prescribed and it's not a relapse".

Not saying that you were considering it as a break in your sobriety. Just thought this conversation warranted me bringing up the saying. Meaning, given a justification such as your circumstances (surgery, etc.) if you take it as prescribed you are good. Of course you'll enjoy the feeling, I would too. As long as you take 1 every 4 hours and not 4 every hour you're good.

I really appreciate your post. If I ever get seriously hurt or have surgery and have a justified/necessary reason to take some I will take the same steps you are taking now. I would give them to my wife to administer, because I am not willing to take any chances. I'm good now on a daily basis. The liquor store and dope dealer are down the street everyday and I am great, no desire. Putting anything in my body does scare the shit out of me though even if justified. That beast inside of me has been doing burpees and is just waiting. As long as I keep my mind right I am good. The physical component of it I will always have though. As long as I dont pick up (mental) I am good and the physical side is powerless. However, in your situation you need to take some. Stay strong while doing so, know we are all here for you, and take them as prescribed no matter what. I have known too many people that go out because they did not take them as prescribed, took 2 instead of 1 in the beginning and spiralled from there. Stay vigilant!

I brought them home and gave them to my wife as soon as I got home. She is the administrator of handing them out to me. I do not want or need the temptation of taking more than what is prescribed. I don't think that I would at this stage in my life as I've come so far. But I'm also not willing to take that chance.

I hope all went well with the tooth extraction.

 

Got the appointment moved up to Monday instead of today. Tooth came out fine and I'm glad they got me worked in earlier. Woke up yesterday morning and my jaw was swollen like a motherfucker. Hurt like hell also. Today hasn't been quite as bad. Jaw is still swollen but maybe not as bad as yesterday. Just taking it easy right now.

 

My roommate is a firefighter and a medic. I hear his stories all the time.

I can't imagine what it's like to see the things he and yourself have. His last story was watching someone jump from a few stories and live, barely. I think the man ended up dying later.

Stay strong, man. Things are never easy.

 

There is a radio show I listen to and the host is very open about his past, his addiction and continuous recovery...He had his appendix out a few years ago and just started talking about it and how he was "working on a playlist in his head" of music he wanted to listen to as soon as he got the meds...He kept trying to get alternatives and they almost couldn't understand...

Took me a couple of tries. The key was I kept coming back. Because I was on felony probation and if I didn't keep coming back they'd throw me in jail.

Went to an actual meeting tonight. Have been on Zoom for almost 3 months.. it was like a home coming for alot of people whom I only saw in a small box on an ipad Since March. The Church smelled like ass. Nobody has been in there and the toilets all dried up!

 

that would be funny to see us all in a real meeting with the parking lot full of Tacos

 

I'd pull in blasting Danzig or the Misfits. Then pull my old BMX bike out and start doing some tricks in the lot prior to the meeting..
