Good luck. The reservation system isn't going to be fun. I've climbed in Tuolumne Meadows and the Valley for over 20 years. Been an annual pass holder for everyone of those years. This will probably be the first year I can't climb there.

They need to separate the valley bullshit from anything on 120. With the reservation system as it stands it’s going to be empty as fuck up there.

I was in Yosemite last weekend.
We were able to get a day pass just a few days before we went.

Edit: it’s easy now but I’m thinking it’ll be difficult soon.

They did it with Half Dome so I guess this shouldn't surprise me but it does.

The reservation system will begin accepting reservations for August on July 1st. I still don't know if you can drive through or not. Personally, if you want to drive through, try after the ranger stations close. Years ago, you used to get a transit permit and showed that on the way out and boom! Free.

I've driven through after hours countless times. That's the way to go. However, on this trip it wasn't possible.

You can drive through, like we did, but you need a day use pass/reservation.

    I don't think so.
We entered around 8pm and we were checked. We drove to the other side of the park. When we got to the other side the booth was not manned. It was pretty late by then.

When we re-entered the park on the east side the following day around 4:30pm they checked our pass. When we exited on the west the booth was manned but no one checked our pass on the way out.

Probably not. I would think that they have a tag system for you to display your reservation though. So, if you sneak in after hours and park, LEO would probably write you a ticket. I don't know what the price of that ticket would be because it's never been done before. I do know the park service though. It won't be cheap. lol

I don't want to cheat that way, I just want to know if I'll be able to drive through the park without a reservation.

    Some really cool shit
Last week, on my way to Long Barn, there was a sign. Tioga Pass Open: Fee required.

Does that mean you have to transit the Park to go over the pass? I've never been over Tioga Pass so don't know.

Hitting Butte Lake up in Lassen next month, anyone familiar with trails around there? I should have plenty of time to explore.

Yes. Unless you have a park pass.
