a- at least you have a good outlook on it
2- also seems you are learning first time
    - lots to learn, never stop. start learning recovery, as it becomes uber important in an instant.

haha doing my best. gonna see about filing an insurance claim but i'm ready for them to reject it...just figure it can't hurt with the cost if they do accept it.

also much appreciate that PDF, got it bookmarked to eventually work my way through. You're entirely right as well, if i was completely reckless and attempted even half of the stuff I did Sunday solo, I would have gotten stuck much too soon with absolutely no help. Luckily the guys I went with were very helpful and patient, even if 2 of em drove Jeeps

Oh for anyone wondering. This happened out in Ocotillo Wells, path taken was Canyon Sin Nombre > Arroyo Seco Del Diablo > Diablo Dropoff > Fish Creek > Sandstone Canyon > past the end of the trail into the rocks, then back out the same way.

First time having to do any trail fixes with @TacoTyusday . Never had to change a wheel off road before....luckily his spare was a KO2 with plenty of tread on it

Dude wheeled his rig so hard I'm so impressed with how his vehicle handled

If you are going to go on primarily short day trips I'd recommend the Ozark Trail soft sided cooler from walmart. $54 for a 30 can version, after a day and a half ice is still cold water. Not great but the yeti version isn't 6 times better. I've had mine for about 4 years and it's showing some wear and tear but it's gone on plenty of long trips as my in cab cooler with a bigger chest in the bed.

RTIC is also good for much less. For hardside, Coleman Extreme performs almost as well as Yeti, for much much less.
also, a dark skin will get hotter, so get white or tan, stay away from black

Am I the only one who prefers blocks of wood to plastic recovery boards?

You could always use a block of wood for your battery issue as well.

You are not. I have a piece, 8"x 12" (ish) of 4 layers of 3/8 plywood I've glued together. Large and solid.

We actually had to use the maxtrax to get out of sand a couple hours earlier....

Also, we needed only like an additional few inches of height for bottle jack to work out. I do have wood blocks in my truck but they weren't the right tool for this job.

LOL I'm saying a big wood block would not have been helpful in this particular situation.

I suppose that we disagree then, but I'd rather use a 4"x4" for such a purpose.

    DSCF5401.jpg

I meant as a spacer for the battery holddown, bad typing. I could always try anything once I suppose...

I know, but I'm a joker kind of guy.
    I carry a 36" 4x4 also, it's a recovery tool.

I'm glad it worked out for you in your clearly taller vehicle we were working under a stock Tacoma whose wheels were mostly dug in.
