@AM330 So there is a blank spot in the harness? There is no wire there at all? Just curious. I ended up using the harness from my previous stereo. It served a different function on my older pioneer, but was in the correct spot for the vss wire. If there is no wire at all in an open spot, I would try to pull it off the new one like you are talking about.

I REALLY HOPE someone figures out a bypass!! It is crazy that it hasn't been done yet. Ive had a bypass for at least the past 10 years. This is the issue I am most upset with! I tried the android thing before this unit, and it was awesome to be able to basically do ANYTHING at any time. Just cant deal with shit not working sometimes. Besides this I love the pioneer. AVassist is a little weird, but hopefully software will improve. ALSO has anyone found a USB C splitter that allows the usb to be split successfully? I tried a few on my previous pioneer, and a different style on this one. Came back with a failure message. Would love to split it off to the port that I had installed in my glove box.

@MikeyL5 Is it not allowing u to access settings while driving? I used a micro bypass, and I am able to access settings while driving, but figured it had nothing to do with the bypass. Are others that did not use any kind of bypass not able to access settings while driving?

I haven’t installed yet - have everything in garage. I’m asking the question based on Rafanonmenons post.

I did not order a new one. I used one from my previous pioneer install. Just have to make sure that it is a triple pulse. I really couldn't tell you if it is doing anything. I don't believe you would need one to access settings while driving, but can not answer accurately. This is the one I have installed.

    @MikeyL5
I looked at that harness on Amazon. I see a Pioneer PR-01? This is a harness for a different model stereo than ours. I have edited this message like 4 times. lol If you go to idatalink maestro and enter your specific vehicle info, it will tell u everything you need. I thought you had a 3rd gen, but after looking at your info i see you have a 2nd? If you need any help, don't hesitate to reach out!

I finally got around to installing mine today using the stock brackets. I had a few issues with the wiring, mainly because I was in a hurry. I missed the 4-pin harness from the Maestro to the stereo so the steering wheel buttons didn’t work. I also missed connecting the 2 blue/white wires together with the blue wire from the antennae adapter. Missing one of the blue/white wires caused no sound. Everything else was perfect. Having this huge screen and car play...love it

I wanted to follow up on my issues from earlier this week getting the Maestro to work on a 2019 SR5 non-JBL.

I'd be grateful for any thoughts or directions at this point! My wife did come out in the garage tonight and remind me that "I did this to myself!" - she's not wrong... hahaha! I'm glad to have going some time in working on this - but it's def. time to wrap this project up!

Let me back up and explain the issue(s) I'm currently having, in case this turns out to help someone moving forward.

I got everything wired up, got the Maestro RR flashed w/ my exact care, went out to install it - go the red double blinking light, which means one of two things:
    1. The SN is entered incorrectly... or
    2. The data cable isn't connected to the stereo.
In my case, the data cable was connected, and I checked the SN a dozen times - even made my wife read it to me incase I was having some sort of moment. So I started to think I had a bad data cable - I replaced that. Same issue. Then, I thought the Maestro must be bad, so I ordered a new one (overnight, ugh) and checked that - same results. Maestro is fine. Cable is fine. SN is 100% correct.

However, the issues I'm having are that the Maestro throws errors to the headunit every 10 seconds, making it unusable - basically saying that the Maestro is disconnected and the features aren't usable. Additionally, and not suprisingly, the back up camera does not work when I disconnect the data cable from the maestro in order to get a working head unit.

So then I started to think it must be some sort of Maestro RR flashing issue - which, I haven't ruled out, but it seems highly unlikely at this point. I've tried dozens of combos, turning off features, default, every combination of Tacomas from 2015 to 2020, etc. I immediately thought, "No one else is having this issue in the forums. It can't be a profile issue!"

So, I immediately started over - checking the harness, all the wiring - undoing it all and repeating the process from start to finish. I removed the wire nuts just to check and take some picture as well (it won't live like this, I was just double/triple checking that there were solid connections)

Nada. In fact, I started to notice that my HUD was giving me random errors too - about checking the charging and checking the brake.

So, here is where I am. All the evidence points to the idea that I have a bad harness - Maestro not working / Car throwing errors. I truly can't think of what else it could be at this point!

Just to make sure I'm not doing anything just plain stupid, I thought I would include some pictures and see if someone would be kind enough to double check my work!

All the best, friends! Hope everyone as an awesome weekend.

    -B

I don't want to be critical, but you have bare power and signal connectors all over the place. Match color for color between the TOY02 harness and the pioneer harness. At least electrical tape your connections to prevent shorting while testing. Your blue power antenna wire goes to the blue and white wire on the pioneer harness (you will actually have three blue wires together). I am not saying your harness is not bad, but I would sooner bet you have connections touching where they should not.

    @Arisian

The check charging system error is expected if the truck is in accessory mode and items are drawing power from the battery. If your engine is on and you're still seeing this, that's something to be concerned about. If it's only in accessory mode and goes away after turning on the engine, it's functioning as expected.

I'd also agree and say that you should def cap those wires.

I don’t remember what u said about the obd2 connections? Did u hook them up like #4 in the maestro installation manual? Mine are not hooked up. Everything works like it should. If yours are hooked up would like to unplug all of that and see where u are then

Did you buy everything from Crutchfield? If so call their tech support. I had a few problems and called. They had me fixed up in 10 min.

It’s worth a shot. Crutchfield was worthless with the Maestro for me. I asked them about not hooking up the speaker wires and they said that would absolutely not work. I have amps and subwoofers and did not tie in the speaker harnesses at all. Worked like it’s supposed to. This stereo wiring is frustrating. Lol

I was surprised they were able to help me...I went in with zero expectation of getting useful help. And yeah, very frustrating lol. I can’t update it from my phone even after following posts about it in this thread.

Hey, thanks a ton for your replies - I really appreciate it.

I've tried both connected and not. At this point, I really feel like Ive exhausted every kind of combination I have at my disposal. I resolved to just put it in the car (as it's been sitting in my passenger seat for 8 days now and the family is... annoyed :)).

Nonetheless, the back up camera ALSO does not work, so if I could solve that, I would just no-maestro it until I got the itch to fix it all again.

I did call them, twice - neither time did we get very far. Super nice people, though! Fantastic support - very impressive. I think the main problem is that the problem manifests itself in the maestro, but it's not inherently a maestro problem.

    ----
    Other things Ive tried:
    ----
    • I rewired the entire harness this morning, still no luck.
    • I checked for bent pins on the harness as well, still no luck.
    • I've removed the obd2 connector with no changes in symptoms
    ----
    Other Questions:
    ----
    • Am I right in assuming that yellow back up camera RCA goes into the brown female from the Pioneer harness?
    • Would any settings in Maestro to be to blame for this? I see everyone pretty much getting it to work out of the box, so Im not pursuing that as a possible problem area.
