Frame Rotted - Getting New One

Here's a short back story.

(BTW, I'm in Collegeville Pa. 20 miles NW of Philadelphia)

I owned a 1997 Tacoma that had 105,000 miles on it. In 2013, I took it to get it inspected and was told that the frame was rotted and needed to be condemned. They told me not to worry because if it was first titled within 15 years time, it would be covered. Turns out it was titled 15 years and 8 days before. There was nothing they could do for me. The truck was perfect in every other way.

That same day, I bought a 2010 CPO TRD Sport SR5 with 30,000 miles on it. They knocked off $1500 for my troubles.

Yesterday, I took that truck to Toyota to get it inspected and asked to for a frame inspection because the hitch receiver was showing a lot of rust and I knew from the TSB that it was covered. The truck has 68,000 miles on it now.

I just got a call from them and was told the frame is rotted and they need to replace it. WTF? It's going to be at least 4 weeks. They're giving me a loner Highlander...At least it's all covered this time.

Oh, they also told me the condenser is leaking and it will only be $400 to repair it while the frame is off. If I wait, it'll be a lot more.

Do I really need to start thinking about a Ford?

 

Maybe! Or a gallon of fluid film and undercoating gun.

 

Which dealer did you take it to? I’m in western suburbs of Philadelphia and just got approved for frame replacement - but I had to take it to a NJ dealer because a closer one didn’t find any rust holes.

I think you should be happy, when it’s done it will be like new, and last for a long long time or help with resale if you want to sell it. Plus they give you a loaner which is nice. If you need a truck ask for a loaner Tacoma.

 

They're fixing the truck and you're mad about it. Makes sense.

 

Probably never sprayed the frame down either

 

You have too maintain the truck,just like you would on any brand you buy.Takes more than just putting gas in your truck and driving around too keep them in great shape.

 

I took my truck to liberty Toyota in Burlington nj . And they replaced my frame. It rides better than new. most of the fluids gets changed. They did an awesome job. And it only took 2 days time I dropped off my truck

 

Sure. If you want to spend way more on repairs than you ever will with a tacoma then go look at a ford.

 

Are you planning on keeping the Ford out of PA?
Can you show me any 10 year old vehicles in your area that don't have corrosion issues?
