Several days ago as a prospective customer, I was looking for clarity on the process and answers to what I assumed were frequently asked questions, for example: what is gear lock?(I still don't know). I didn't want to ask the questions here because I figured I'd get a lot of the "use the search function!" responses from users. The threads on some of these topics are hundreds, if not thousands of pages long. I don't want to spend a lot of time sifting through pages on here getting second hand information just to find the answers to a few simple questions. I wanted to hear it straight from the horses mouth which is why I went to the OV Tune website, but the FAQ link didn't work. Frustrated by that, I started looking through information on here and found this link: https://www.ovtuned.com/blogs/news/tacoma-2-0-final-auto-release was not at the bottom of the home page yet, I found it only by clicking in a TW members signature. On top of that, I was hearing conflicting terminology describing the "2.0 final" tunes and it was just adding to the confusion. I don't think I'm alone in this. I think other users probably feel the same way and are either scared to ask or don't want to bother as it seems daunting at first. This is why I can't wait to get it done and make a video to help others. I'm not trying to be overly critical if it's coming across that way, the waters just seem to be muddy with unclear information and conflicting terminology.

GL is true manual mode shifting, similar but different compared to factory manual mode ATs. Slowing or braking, it will nearly stall the motor before a shift is forced. Accelerating, it will not shift at a redline. It will downshift at nearly redline. Those three features are very different than factory manual modes and pretty damn cool.

There is a YouTube video of Mat demonstrating it.

OV should pay you for how much help you offer to other TW members!

Nah! The benefits with both the TSB and OV flashes are real and substantial. If these were done at the factory or painlessly at the dealers, I can just imagine how TW would be different and what the 3rd Gen street cred would be. It is somewhat unfortunate that OVT was needed, but Mat has knocked it out of the park with what he has done.

I've been down this similar path with my other cars and bikes. Small changes drastically change the overall character.

Somewhat related: The stock redline/rev limiter is very aggressive, the truck completely falls on its face when you hit it. With 2.0, can you "bounce" off rev limiter, more like the 2nd gen trucks?

Yes. The motor is pulling way too hard at 6k for that to be the limit for the motor, as is known for the other Toyota and Lexus applications. The OVT limiter is similar, just at a much better number. Stock, I was brushing the limiter daily. With the OV limiter, I only touched it a couple times because by about 6,500 or so, the power band starts to taper and the shift is much more natural.

That's good news. The stock limiter is awful.
The 2nd gen limiter was amazing. For "aggressive" driving in the snow or just general hooliganism it was great. You could hold the truck at limiter if you wanted to, and it liked it :D
Sounds like the OVT limiter is better, but not quite to the point of the 2nd gen?

I never felt the 2nd Gen limiter. The 4.0 that I test drove, while feeling good, was just not happy in the top end. In 2nd, giving it the beans, I just shifted to 3rd because it was out of wind. I would have enjoyed the S/C and would have fought damn hard for that Taco if it had one. In the end, it was just not worth the price for a 10yr old vehicle that came out of Florida.

The way that OVT pulls, you'll want to be shifting if near the limiter. Otherwise, holding it at 6k-ish, is an easy all day long affair. 2nd at the limiter is around 80mph wheel speeds. LoL!

I'm referencing when your wheels are spinning (no traction on purpose, ha), it's much easier to mash the peddle and bounce off the limiter then to try and maintain a certain RPM below limiter. Still, anything is better than the factory limiter.

I'm sure there are people that are cringing at this convo… There's people that only drive their trucks to get places, and there's people that like to drive their trucks for fun sometimes.

I for one have aspirations of rev limit snow donuts at 8#'s of boost, when I can finally get my hands on the twins :D

    Hahahaha!

The playing in snow that I have done is mostly in the mid range, similar to where I step out the rear on wet highway ramps.

I think the twins will definitely give you some smiles looking at OVT's vids.

I saw those, that turbo kit looks pretty insane! The dude is drifting around a grass field at like 6k-7k rpms!

Yep. These are similar turbos to those used on the Raptor. It is going to be a very nice mod for the folks that grab them.

Not to mention that the kit will have a limited warranty.

Yes but it actually took less time for me. I think it was 5 days.

So are the 2.0 AT final tunes out for the 2020? I’m just looking to install it and forget it. Not interested in editing.

Yes. They are as regular P5F files. You're in the wrong thread though since this would be the editing discussions.
