Interesting side note: Les Claypool from Primus had a unique connection to Benicia, aside from being a totally righteous band in the nineties. His father used to own A & L Gears in the Benicia Industrial Park. He rebuilt my SM465 for an old Willyz pickup I had in high school. Just as laid back as a dude can be. The shop is gone and I never knew what happened to it or him. Al was a magnanimous person and always willing to give instruction you a fledgling grease monkey. He never did understand the bumper sticker on my 67 Jeepster(Primus Sucks)...

That's awesome! I didn't know he came from a gearhead family. Every time someone says Flea is unmatched I tell them not to rule out Les... to which they usually say, who? ha The only story I know of like that was a buddy of mine in the Marines. His Pops claims to have known the "Sancho" that Bradley refers to in Santeria and said the homie actually shot him. No confirmation or anything, but that guy definitely believed his dad at least ha.

I'm going to guess about 500lbs so I can be surprised if it's less :D

Im going to prepare for 501, even though I’ll be hopeful for your answer.

The 06 Tundra bed is longer and wider (and I believe more shallow meaning a need for more height on the aluminum??) so the base weight will likely be higher than for a Long Bed Tacoma, not to mention I’ll be getting some screen windows and some insulation paneling. But that’s about it for me. I have my own lights and don’t see much need for a fan with than much open. Maybe I’ll regret the fan, but I doubt it. One less thing to power.

You’ll regret not getting the fan...

But, it looks like you’ve got a good start on your planning! Keep it up. I’d love to see another 1st gen Tundra get a Vagabond product.

Ive only ever seen one or two in photos on a 1st Gen.

I’d love to see more if anyone had photos or videos. If not I’ll take plenty in a year or two when I finally have the truck and camper ha.

I was going to get another 2nd Gen but decided the lower cost and far better space would be better for a full time travel living area.

You've got a First Gen Tundra? I've only seen 2 with a Drifter so far. One was posted earlier in this thread. Which leaf packs did you go with?

Im in the process of purchasing a first gen Tundra. I currently have a 1999 4Runner and a 1993 Pickup with the 22R-E. It’d be hilarious to put a Drifter and that little guy haha.

This post is related to rear suspension...

I had to put the Tacoma to work to recover my dad and his atv trailer up in the mountains of SE Washington. The truck had a pretty usual full trip loadout, 15G water, 34G fuel + 10G in cans and gear. The trailer added 500lb to the tongue so I was probably at close to 7000lbs total on the truck as a usual Baja loadout on scales is 6500lb (2750/3750). But come to think of it I had my BAMF sliders off for powdercoat and winch off from building a new front bumper (tossed to ARB on just to have something on this run). So maybe 6700 with the trailer.

Anyways, the trailer dropped the rear about 1" and measuring my axle to fender the day after showed no significant movement after the weight had been removed. I have a 0.5" +/- margin of error in measurement, so it still could have moved some. The rear is suspended with HD OME and an extra long leaf, which is equivalent of medium + 2 long leafs.

Still happy with OME. They don't seem to droop after 3 long trips into Baja and other trips around the West, plus a heavy ass trailer pull down 400mi of mountain and interstate. 30,000 miles on the OME pack to date.

    I hate pulling trailers...

well guys, after spending almost a year contemplating the sleeping platform size I've decided I want to sell my spot in line, I simply want a larger space to sleep 2 people and a very needy border collie. Has anybody gone through this process or know how/if the good people at VO handle it? I've seen a few other folks who have sold their spots. Order number in the 160's, order date beginning of September 2019, camper should be ready pretty soon-ish. thanks

I’m super tempted to take you up on this offer. Did you already pick out your accessories, or can things still be modified? If things can be changed I’m 90% certain I want to take your spot!

    Let me know!

    congrats!!

    hell yeah man!

I don’t think you’d have any problem selling your spot, seems like it would be pretty straight forward if coordinated well. Knowing the details of your drifter would help for sure.

    Congrats!

I'm picking up my Drifter in a week. Anyone around Benicia that wants to have a beer at a local brewery let me know! @Anderson ?

Any must have restaurant/local eateries there?
