Yep, right! Im sure they get away with it based on amount sticking out of wheel well and clearance height from ground, they did add a piece of black molding just at the rear to help some and there is of course the factory PPF stuff like the 2nd gens have back there, I've run flaps and no flaps, still get chips.

Thanks everyone. So main concern of possible accident sounds unlikely...

It's an OR w/ OR Premium (leather, etc.). Did a VIN search on Toyota's site. And it obviously has CC. Pics were sent from the dealer after I requested them. I have no idea why dealers don't put up real photos???

My bigger concern was the drive leather LOL. Minor issue in an otherwise nice truck. Good maintenance via CarFax... If it's someone that took the trouble to remove badging presumably they took decent care?? I also thought it looked lifted beyond factory. So I suppose there's some concern that they treated it poorly off-road... I was going to negotiate down $2-3k if I wanted to go after it. Still debating.

Here are my other options at the moment... Happy to share some links to get folks' feedback... The Green is this truck. Yellow is a nearly new (reposesed??) at an Acura dealer. Base 2020 OR with premium Audio for $36.5k. Leaning towards it at the moment. I'd like Leather but not willing to pay $$$ for it. Two of the good used options are former rentals. Not overly concerned but it being an OR makes me a bit "hmmm".

This is literally about the only available OR is Texas that isn't loaded to $50k+. Carvanna has every truck pending sale. I'm also "technically" not in a hurry but don't like waiting haha.

That seems more reasonable but it seems with inventory (maybe a texas thing?) no one is willing to budge much. And several of the ones I've looked at last week have been pulled off and sold (supposedly).

I should probably just wait 6-12 months but that's no fun...

Price isn't too far off, given its tech and prem and has the lift/tires and given the extrodinary demand right now/lack of inventory. I traded my 19 in with tech/prem for $35k and 6k miles, they sold it in a week certified for $36.5k this was in March. Trade in on that truck is probably close to $30k, I'd offer them $32k and see if they bite.

Have you used cars.com? Their search feature is pretty good and you can see quite a few options and narrow the search with several options

The mark on seat by lumbar support knob from knob rubbing on the leather. My OR is the same way.

Dealer came down $300 only. Seemed genuine that he has no incentive to do otherwise given inventory constraints (both on new Tacomas and used).

I've got an offer for a new 2020 white/grey base model OR (no add-ons or packages) for total $36,139+TTL. Seems like an ok price (basically MSRP) but not a deal.

But $2k more compared to 15-25k mile versions seems like a no brainer. I like the 18k mi one (see the last one below) but it's a rental that was in PA with no maintenance, so a bit concerned about rust (I can check this) and resale. Some includes bed cover and tubes but i will want a specific cover based on my needs. tubes are not horribly expensive.

FYI I will likely sell this in 5-years so resale (ease and price) are important. And I will only drive it maybe 5k/yr. However, most of that will be in a remote area with family so it needs to be reliable. Seems like with new I could likely get a decent price (32-35k) in 5-years which is at most ~$1k/yr cost (which is fantastic for new).

    Thoughts?

Summary again with this new one in Blue.

The lift is a Fox lift. Any thoughts on that? Good, bad, fine?

Dealer was like "what stain?" so having him check/confirm again....

A rental vehicle will have more regular maintenance than a privately owned vehicles but they won’t be reported to any databases. Neither will any accidents as they are self insured.

That's what I've always assumed too. We owned an Avis in Australia for that reason and it was great. But don't know if other people get concerned with the whole "bad driver" argument and if it'd hurt my resale. Probably not given the demand for Tacomas...

Your accident point I hadn't thought of and actually makes me leery now.

Again, they would do a better job of repairing a vehicle because the vehicles exist to make them money.

All ORs come with crawl control standard. It’s what differentiates them from the Sports (unless it’s 2WD)

My guess is it’s an SR5 probably with some dealer options.

As for whether it’s wrecked, people take the bed decals and badges off all the time. I would look under the truck at the frame rails to see if they have been painted or if the welds look like a robot or Billy Ray at Coonskin Paint & Body did them.

Also you can check under the hood. Look at the bolts that bolt the fenders. Do they looked chewed up or the paint has been manipulated to indicate someone unbolted them at some point?

maybe bring a tape measure and cross measure points of reference. For instance measure from a bolt by the front left grille to a point in the back right corner that has a similarly placed point on the opposite side. Record that measurement and then compare to the measurement from the front right to rear left. They should match. If not, the front end is out of alignment probably due to previous crash repair.
