Gonna hit bout 12 hours of OT this week. Feels good to be back

 

Watching 2 astronauts do live repairs on the outside of the international space station...pretty freaking cool

Makes whatever you're doing here on earth seem pretty...small

 

jesus the number of people commenting on the live feed saying it's all fake because you "can't see any stars" is a pathetic reminder of how stupid some people really are lol

there's a "show" on hulu called earth views I think.. it's just recordings of the view of the earth from the ISS as it rotates the earth and it really puts the futility of man into perspective..

I've fallen asleep to it a couple times lol

The description on google kind of reminds me of that movie Interstellar from 5ish years ago

 

I fucking hate willfully ignorant people.

I did my thesis research at the Jack C. Davis Observatory and work there as faculty adjunct. We had a group come by who were flat earth theorists coming up to check out the observatory. What it ended up becoming was a group of people coming up to argue away observations with faux-scientific sounding bullshit. We happened to be watching the ISS fly over that night, caught it on the 14"

It was blurry AF, but you could make out the solar panels and main body. They accused us of having software which superimposed an image over an object they saw in the sky. We faked it as they watched it with their eyes and as we grabbed the image on the telescope. Apparently I am more talented than I thought, to fake taking a picture of an object you see flying across the sky, then faking what it looks like on the fly.

We also shot a laser at the moon and got a reply, because astronauts left fucking mirrors on the surface during the lunar missions. This too was "faked."

 

The comments on the live feed are getting just as interesting.

'this is so fake you can tell they just filmed this whole space station fix underwater'

'it's not fake you idiot, do you see any bubbles'

'someone should put bubbles in your mom's bloodstream'

'you're the reason they have to advertise toilet paper on TV'

It was slightly better than OK; I say that because there was a part I thought was a bit cheesy (rovers Mars chase).

Aside from that, I enjoyed it

 

Oh man don't get me started on flat earthers, haha. I can't imagine how frustrating that would be though, to have actual proof to show them and they still try and refute it with their BS.

Most people like that I just see as being 'confused' and figure they'll come around in due time/when they grow up, but the frightening thing is that some of them truly do believe in the nonsense they spew out.

"Flat earth theorists" you're a good man giving them that much credit... when a theory has been disproved and is still clung to, a different description of the people should be used. I prefer to call them cultists... like the urophagia crowd

 

Don't watch Gemini Man though, the CGI is horrible in that thing.

 

I personally referred to them as the "group of dumb cunts in the corner" but that could refer to half of humanity at this point.

 

Too bad they couldn't bring back any moon rocks that can kill all disease on planet earth. I remember when that was one of the supermarket tabloid space mission conspiracies.

 

Gotta get used to half-assed CGI, it's about to become very prevalent with all the new restrictions placed on the film industry due to CV19.
