You are if you don't have the taxes/fees and interest you paid covered. Unless you just consider that 'rent'.

Moving on. No one gets the keys until the lien holder gives the all clear signal. And that even requires some caution as you need to be sure who you are speaking to on the phone.

No cashiers checks for me (handed to me from the buyer) anymore, too easy to forge with spiffy printers. Cash is fine IF the transaction is done at a bank where their counter scans for counterfeit.

I prefer to go to the bank with the buyer and have them provide the funds directly to me. That can be a cashiers check.

less than $2k will give you any sort of ride you like. An OME 2" soft lift is a very nice ride. Cost about $1400.

OP. Look into leasing vehicles, 3-5 year commitment depending on the contract.

Imo, being from ct., i searched dealers in the northeast for the tacoma i wanted. Between dealers being bothered by ordering, or their ridiculous price given i ended up buying the truck from a large boston dealer in ma. That said imo, it still wasn't the greatest price. The northeast seems to have the highest prices next to california. I can't see how any dealer outside the northeast is willing to buy a truck from here when they can find one for less elsewhere unless getting it cheap.

When I got it it was the best deal I could find anywhere and also got the $1750 rebate from Toyota at the time.

When I bought my old RAM from a private seller, thats how we did it. It was great and if I ever sell private it is what I will do. He called the bank ahead of time and had the title at their branch waiting. We walked in together. I handed the money directly to the bank, they signed the title, and then they gave him the difference of the pay off.

No one imo gets the keys unless transaction takes place at the bank and any funds I’m receiving are verified into my account period.

I think the rebate i got was $1500 at the time...still no great deals anywhere here, especially weeks later with dwindling supplies due to covid-19

Until you have official docs from Toyota, don’t release the vehicle. Worse case, you’re getting scammed. Best case, you’re still holding the bag until someone decides to pay and you are still liable.

I sold my last truck to a Toyota dealer. While they did pay the bank off reasonably quick, I had $8k equity in it and they dragged their feet for a few weeks on paying me until I threatened a visit. They are in the business of using other people’s money from the manufacturer to the customer and know how to play the game well.

Next time don't sign over the truck until you have the check in your hand.
