Looking to add some height to my 2019 Tacoma TRD sport

Hey all,

New taco owner (2019 Cement Taco TRD Sport) as of a few weeks ago in Towson, MD. Please bear with me here, I've never been a "car/truck guy," so I'm learning as I go with my first truck.

I have recently been looking into leveling/lifting my truck. My hesitation has been because of not voiding warranties but from what I have been seeing, as long as I go to the right place, they will cover their work. My reason for wanting a lift is really just for aesthetic purposes right now, which obviously could change in the future to some off roading. New wheels will be added down the road once the lift is done.

I want to do a small 2-3 inch lift while maintaining as much of a factory ride as possible, or improve it, being that this is my daily driver. Budget wise, I'm not looking to cheap out with a front/rear leveling kit because I hear that can be a nightmare in the long run. Speaking with a local shop, they recommended doing an SST kit. But then I was reading some threads that kept mentioning Bilstein 5100 shocks which it seems like gives a great ride.

I've been looking at the forums to try and gather some ideas on how to go about this, but everyones input is dependent on what that person is looking for, so I'm hoping I can get some feedback from you guys. If you guys wouldn't mind giving your recommendations as well as including what stock parts need to be replaced with whatever lift I go with, I would appreciate the guidance!

Welcome to the club and TW. Don’t forget to join us in the MD tread. You do have a few good options for a budget friendly lift but you’ll need to read more about each one and see what will work best for what you want. A lot of people here are happy with the Eibach lift and you can get that relatively cheap as well. There is also the billies 5100 which you mentioned. I don’t have a lift on mine yet but I’m planning on the Ironman Foam Pro kit.
Most kits will give you everything you need for the lift but find a place that you can choose an add a leaf option like Headstrong Off-road.
Sorry I can’t give you an actual recommendation but hopefully pointing you somewhere you can find one.

Take your estimated budget and add about another $1000 on it and yeah go with that kit

 

Least expensive way -

$150 Supreme Suspensions - 2" Front + 1.5" Rear Lift Kit for 2005-2023 Toyota Tacoma 2WD / 4WD - High-Strength Steel Full Suspension Lift Kit

using block/spacer lift kits - less than $300, only benefit is, same ride and it raises the body. If your looking at rough off roading or 4X4 wheeling - this is not suggested.
The shocks that you listed will not provide a lift by themselves. You also need some new coils and in the rear you will need an add-a-leaf (AAL). A lot of choices and most will affect the ride.
The least costly of this of upgrade is an Eibach Pro lift kit and a AAL similar to Icon 1.5 Inch Lift Rear Lift PN 51100) and the ride is much improved.

 

Spacers are fine if you just want aesthetics, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Your warranty won’t be affected; unless the spacers contributed directly to the failure. (Basically, don’t worry about it)

bilstein 5100s or the Eibach kit will lift your truck. It includes perches on the front shock that allow you to reinstall your coil springs and lift the truck. 5 perches each lift to a specific height. You can also get aftermarket coils for a little more lift, but not necessary to do.

rear can be a block, add a leaf, or full leaf pack. Or you can just leave the back end alone and add about 2” of lift to the front to level the truck.

Bilstein kit is about 400 bucks which will improve your ride and lift the front end. Spacer kit is about half the price but no advantages like the bilstein kit or Eibach kit.

 

new coils not required for Bilstein 5100. You can reuse stock coils on higher perches to achieve lift.

 

So I think what I've decided to go with is a...
-Bilstein 2" Lift kit
-OME 2887 2" front coils
-1.5" Icon AAL 51100

What are your thoughts?

Also, I've noticed some people have added new bushings with similar builds. Necessary?

 

sounds good. Ecgs clamshell bushing is hit or miss. Usually don’t need it until over 2”, but every truck is different. If you’re having the suspension installed by someone, you can add it in. If you’re doing it yourself (or just want to wait and see), you can see what happens.
