Why does my cruise work exactly the same as my rav, Camry or sienna ? On highways with decent grades. 60-65 mph. It’s also the same as my f150 was. I don’t see this gear jumping at all.

Toyota cc is psychotic. Is psychotic in all Toyota vehicles. It will do whatever it takes to maintain exactly the speed you set it to. You bought a low hp/tq midsize truck. Its going to rev up quite a bit to maintain speed up mountain passes. The Tacoma is not going to "blow up" dude. If you don't like it I'd suggest taking my advice I give all who are unhappy with their Tacoma, sell it, trade it, give it away, burn it in a funeral pyre. Just get rid of it. Life is too short to be unhappy.

I will add that your complaint is not a common one here on TW. There are many many others who live in mountainous regions who are quite happy with theirs.

I heard that if you drive a tacoma in a rain storm it will flip upside down and catch on fire.

    Sounds important.
Probably deserves its own thread though.
    Definitely do it.

I was thinking the NA V6 in an F-150 was a 3.3, thinking it was around 295HP so not much higher than our trucks.

I drive up the Sierra Nevada mountain range every other week at extremely steep inclines and I really can't complain. Even fully loaded with a rooftop tent and it still drives up happily. It likes to be high up in the rev range, but I come from a turbo'd 4 banger so maybe I'm just more used to the high revs.

Then maybe I have to get this back to a dealer.
Because what I experience is a truck that just can't function in CC at grades. I believe my expectation level is correct and I have 3 other V6 vehicles that have done this trip many times. The most comparable being the 2019 Pilot as far as motor hp and torque. No problems so I know the Tacoma is easily strong enough.
And then I ran it up the steepest backroads today without CC and it was great.
Other than that, I'm perfectly happy with it. I just wish I had your experience when using it.
    Thanks for your input.

I have the adaptive cruise control in my Land Cruiser. It works amazingly well.

I park under bridge overpasses to avoid it. Pro-tip if you keep your truck dry it won't get wet, flip upside down and catch on fire.

The firemen are just standing around waiting. They know whats coming. Brought the firetruck and everything. Had he bought a Ridgeline he would of been fine.

I'm not complaining about the CC. I'm fine with it. Just trying to explain to @RatAssassin that his truck is likely performing normally just like everyone else's. There are just certain traits about the Tacoma that are different from other similar vehicles that you can either live with, love, or hate.

And I tend to keep my foot out of it more so.
The motor does like to rev as I saw running mountains today ( and it was loads of fun)
With my foot in it setting up for the hills, the truck didn't seem so "confused".

Yeah, I think CC is really meant to be just that: "Cruise" control. I should have qualified by saying that there's no way I'd use CC on the road I mentioned and added "the engine can definitely do it". Glad you're happy with it off.

Just find it a bit strange thar they put NA 3.5L in a fullsize. That engine must be working extra hard.

Cheap people complain about fuel economy and I don’t think that’s the look we are going for.
