i took off my secondary filter and put a afe filter in there, but what i want to know is there a difference in gains MPG, and HP, with say a volant or AFE intake system

AFE intake will give a loud whining noise in the upper rpms. thats mainly where you will find the power. We have the same engine type so im sure it would help with horsepower and throttle response a little better. but ive done this mod with the secondary filter as well. i seem to have better throttle response and my ideling rpms is way lower. around 800 in neutral.

with the intake....you wont see any increase until you get to the upper rpm ranges......but for normal driving, you'll see benefits with what you have now.

you may want to check with urdusa.com and see if they have anything like the maf calibrator that will work on the motor you have. besides a turbo or s/c...thats about all i can think of. and also...you may be able to get a set of headers for your truck. those will help some too man.

After I installed my K&N cai, I noticed a big difference in performance. But not in mpg.
