I would just ask them to make sure it's installed properly. If you have them do something like add silicone, and it's not what they normally might do, they may give you a hard time if it leaks.

Like others, I installed my OEM rack and it wasn't tough and hasn't proven to be leaky in the ~12 months I've had it on. Just make sure you know what you're getting into in terms of carrying ability (~75 lbs of awkward kayak up there is the edge of my comfort zone). It certainly makes less road noise than others when the crossmembers are tucked in. Enjoy!

    Yep....lots
I put the factory rack on myself....no issues. They included the foam (Butyl) weatherproofing tabs and once you tighten this down it's not gonna leak. Put it on in less than an hour. I use mine to haul a canoe. I put a hitch mounted bar (Reese) in and support the front of the canoe with foam blocks on the rack. Works great!

I have one I bought after I got my truck from Camelback Toyota in Arizona. I love it, although I only use it for looks to gain an extra inch or two in height. During Christmas I wrap it in Christmas lights

OEM roof rack doesn’t cause leaks. The holes are already in your roof, and it’s not leaking...

Leaks were on earlier models from the third brake light, but it has been resolved for a couple years now.

The holes are sealed by the factory before you remove the rubber gutter strips and puncture the factory tape-stuff that is painted over and seals the holes. Some people have had issues with leaks after installing their OEM racks, I think? I'll search down the threads when I get a minute.

    Work in progress
I like your strategy. I plan on putting in the OEM roof rack and then the Thule Goalpost to support my canoe. You can see more about it here:
    https://www.rackwarehouse.com/thule-997-goalpost-hitch-canoe-kayak-carrier-rack.html

I had the Thule Truck Transporter on my 2005 Tacoma but with the new truck I put on the OEM tonneau and it doesn't work. I loved that Thule Transporter but it was a pain on the Tacoma because it needed special clamps and doesn't lower all the way to the bed floor, etc.

That said, the Prinsu rack looks total badass. Agree 100%. If I needed to carry more weight up top I would definitely get it or one of the others that looks equally menacing!

Just installed OEM rack myself entirely for canoe purposes as well.
Can you upload some pics of the canoe on the rack

I haven't had the canoe out lately. I'm selling my plastic Canoe since I'm building a wood stripped canoe, so when I take it to it's new home I'll snap some pictures.

you tap in to existing threaded hole, i installed one and even the oem factory rack takes a little tweaking to keep it from leaking, and for it to all line up.

Is the crossmember physically touching your antenna when it’s unloaded and/or properly loaded? Or are you saying the close proximity is what affects your radio reception? I was under the impression most 2016+ Tacomas, except a few model months in early 2020, have no issues with actual “touching.”

I use it to hold my awning and it does a great job with that. Took 20 mins to install.

My 2018 absolutely does not touch. The early 2020’s are the only ones with this issue.

$400+. $250 install gets you very close to the price of a Prinsu with DIY.

The OEM is being t worth it. It looks nice but not a good spend.

Just bought an OEM rack for my 19

It was finicky to install (bolt holes didn’t quite line up), it has a water leak from it’s flimsy washer seals (could be fixed with silicone i’m sure) but most importantly, the crossbars don’t fit snugly. I can grab them and move them up and down a quarter inch - not confidence inspiring for actual use.

It’s silent stowed, yet while deployed theres a /lot/ of wind noise. And thanks to that slop, it rattles too

I’m returning it for a refund, haven’t decided what i’ll replace it with (maybe one of the Amazon knock-offs for a third of the price)
