my 33's are rubbing the pinch weld all full stuff, i've done the cmc and trimmed the fenders. been waiting to wale on things with a hammer though. How much have you smashed down and what did you use? I saw someone that didn't want to beat on it with a hammer and took an angle grinder to it, I feel like thats a no no though. who has any input on this? Thanks.

I don't have a pic, but I smashed mine flat with a BFH. Be warned, it's harder to smash than you think. Don't cut it!

    Hammer it down flat.
I'd assume it would be the same as my 2nd gen, hammered it flat and bent the edge towards the fender (not in towards the motor). 4 lb sledge made easy work of it.

I did mine inward. Seemed easier to hammer that way.

Why shouldn't you hammer towards the motor?

I’m sure you could do that too, hammering it away from the motor flattened it where there was more room. Towards the motor and it’s being flattened on the firewall.

Not the best view but I hammered mine inward with a BFH, jbwelded over the whole thing and then painted it matte black to match. If you look at the edge of the cab mount and follow it upwards that's where my pinch weld was.

Did you remove the plastic? I do not see the pinch weld. I added a steel bumper and winch. Now I rub. Scared the shit out of me on the trails. 34AB8067-D0C9-4E5E-8472-33A8FA719CFA.jpg

Yes, you have to remove the fender liner to get to the pinch weld.

Note to self, do not wait until it is 90 degrees out with 99.9% humidity. After adding a steal bumper and winch, I developed a very annoying and loud rub on the drivers side. It would scare the crap out of me. Sucked. Anyway, thank god for google, videos and tacomaworld because I really suck at all mechanical related things, which blows in itself. I hammered the pinch weld over and then trimmed as little as possible. The final step was using a heat gun to smoosh the plastic down. Total time was around 2 hours, lots of wasted time doing stuff that did not need to be done, shrug. There are a few guys that out there that answered some stupid ass questions, so thanks..........Now for the passenger side - first thing tomorrow morning........

You can get a tool off Amazon, it still sucks, I ended up ripping mine and just buying a kit. The kit had a few different tools and like 100 different plastic thingys....... I am set for, um, like 20 years.

I chose to bend my PW outwards in hopes that I could use it to reattach my fender liners at some point. Something that worked well for me was to do most of the bending using a crescent wrench (metric or left handed works as well) then pull out the BFH
