wondering if anyone was from the Brewster WA area. I had to have a pop up towed and a wheel fixed.

For about a 45 mile tow, and an hours worth of Labor, I was charged $450.

    Does this seem fair?

What are your thoughts. Am I way out of line, thinking I got taken advantage of?

I'd say 150 for the tow and the rest to the repair.... pending on what needed done there.
Plus, probably covid pricing for having to actually go out and risk getting it.
    Idk.

Repack grease, put on the spare.

I think 300 would have been fair pricing. And this dude didn’t care about covid.

It’s been very odd crossing the country. Some places Covid doesn’t exist, other places it’s like you step outside and get it.

It's difficult to say with just the one picture, but it looks like the lug holes on the wheel are blown out, which means you need a wheel and a new hub/bearngs.

Rebuilding a trailer hub is easy, but a messy job? Are you sure the bill wasn't 450 apples?as opposed to 450 dollars?

Sounds like you paid the got caught in a pinch premium. Sorry bud. Brewster is not my favorite town in E WA. I once stayed in the Apple Inn... fell asleep with a painting of Jesus watching me through the night.

That hub has a bearing-buddy on it. You typically don't repack the bearings. You remove the rubber cover and lube the zerk fitting.

You repack if you're replacing burn out bearings. But yeah, if they were just replacing/adding grease... you just hook your grease gun up to the zerk and pump until fresh grease comes through. Be sure to spin the wheel while pumping to avoid blowing out the seal.

Yep. If you are installing new bearings you would pack them.

Does the picture look like the wheel is junk? It does to me, but the picture isn't the best. I suppose it's irrelevant now anyways...

Yep, that wheel is scrap metal now. OP said the trailer is now using the spare. However I'm guessing the studs are worse for wear too.

That's what bugs me. If the guys just repacked the bearings and overlooked the lug stud condition, that blows. Difficult to tell without being on-site.

He used some grade A bolts as stud replacements
After some texts today, showing him today’s blowout. He has stayed he will be sending me a check for 150, thus making the tow and work 300, which I am in agreement as fair.

The wheel was toast, I used the spare. Today I picked up 2 new wheels with tires already on at tractor supply.
At this point it’s got new rubber all around and this

Thanks for the info on the grease, I’ll check it out in the morning and am staying within striking distance of a big box hardware place.

Some places think they're immune, like Yakima, and now they're one of the hardest hit areas in the country.
