It's just too intense of a file to manage on iPhone. Haha. I had the procedure for installation and the app crashed and now I can't find it again. Damn.

If it's anything like the hpfp on the 4 cylinders I've worked on, you only have to relieve the fuel pressure then remove and replace the part. There was no timing of the pump, it used a cam lobe to pressurize the fuel.

Thanks, I remember a ways back when I had originally told them when I heard it intermittently when I had brought up the tsb but they couldn't replicate and said normal operation probably. At this time it's def more pronounced and I hear it most of the time after the truck is warmed up. Unfortunately I see nothing on my documentation that this was talked about. I'm going to be calling today or tomorrow and explain the situation, thing that sucks is my service advisor from the time is no longer there. He was the supervisor too, and now the new one I had experience with seemed not as friendly or willing to work with you. Hope I am able to get it covered, 1500 is steep when they know they have a problem and I reported it before with my vehicle.

I can definitely get my hands dirty, and if they do try to charge me the 1500 I will be doing it myself. Does anyone have any instructions out there, I sort of have a basic overview of it from different vehicle videos. Also is the part linked in the bottom the actual oem part or a 3rd party replacement?

    Thanks guys,

    Tom

That is the OEM part from TSB invoice. You can even open your hood up and see it is the same part as well.

Wow thanks, wonder why such a big mark up, ouch! If they do plan on charging I'll definitely be doing this myself. Wonder if anyone on here has done this and if so any advice or instructions?

Curious what your outcome was with the dealership? I’ve got the chirp on my 2018 as well.

We recently took my 2016 sport on a 3400 mile road trip through the Rockies and every day we drove I’d start to hear the chirp about when the engine reached operating temp. Haven’t heard it in a few months but I do get a hiss/whistle when I accelerate at highway speeds. Think the dealer would let that fall under this tsb?

I have a chirping/squeaking sound in my 2018 that comes and goes but seems to be getting worse. Engine needs to get nice and warm to hear it, but I only hear it when accelerating usually between 1500-2000 rpms. It will do it while in park in response to the throttle. I don't hear it at idle though. It's loud enough to easily hear over the engine with the window down or radio off and window up.

I have a 2018 so not sure the tsb covers it. It started just over a week ago. It doesn't sound like the video posted earlier in this thread since that's at idle. Are there any other common Tacoma issues that could explain it?

The dealer has heard it but suggested bringing it back in during the work week so they cane dedicate someone to diagnose it. Sometimes you have to drive 20-40 minutes to hear it then it will do it most of the day. Cooling off overnight seems to make it disappear for a little bit till you drive it for some time. Definitely seems to be getting worse. Sounds like I'm driving a clunker that needs maintenance.

Last week I got the chirp. Sounds like a loud cricket just under your hood while idling. You can hear it well if close to a building, as it echoes against it. When the compressor turns on or off, it chirps away. Took it to the dealer who diagnosed it as the HPFP and ordered the part. I left it with them and got it back a few days later and all sounds good again. I'm just hoping it doesn't happen again in another 45K miles! Because apparently it's $1500 for the dealer to replace. Toyota Part No. 23101-0P020

After a 3rd visit to my local dealer over the last few year, they finally agreed that the angry cricket needed to go. They performed the T-SB-0016-18 and we will see if the Taco Bell Drive-Thru attendant notices

Well, the dealer goofed something up with my repair. Now it smells like gas is leaking when I first crank in the morning. Back to the dealer next week. :annoyed:

I too have crickets under the hood.
But I'm passed the 60k powertrain warranty so I'll just have to live with it.
I've gotten used to it by now so as long as it doesnt crap out on me, itll do.

Glad I stumbled upon this thread. Started hearing the chirping sound a few days ago and on my way to the dealer for service. Of course when I get there, they can’t replicate the sound.

Looks like I’ll be giving them a call back this week

Any ‘19 or ‘20 models getting this fixed under the TSB? My ‘19 pro is exhibiting the same sounds and I’m curious to see what others outside of the TSB range are experiencing from the dealership as far as getting it fixed.
