Techstream is Toyota's proprietary vehicle interface software. Let me start by saying: the safest way to use Techstream is to receive it directly from Toyota, through the TIS program. Not everyone has $1545 to spend for occasional personal vehicle maintenance (or even $65 for a two-day software license). So we're presented one "simple" alternative: downloading questionable versions online.
We spent a lot of money on our trucks, and it would be absolutely horrifying if a bad piece of software were able to damage them. So I've dedicated two days to sifting through as many sites and installers as I could find, and reading about different versions. I share this information freely, in the hopes that our community can avoid damage to our computers, and our trucks.
Please share your general experience with various versions - especially if you have warnings or incredible experiences, so we can compile a "safe(r)" list of Techstream. Know the required password to a download? Got a helpful file? Install method tip or trick? Best hardware practices (spare computer, no internet connection)?

TIS = Technical Information System (https://techinfo.toyota.com)
    GTS = Global Techstream (https://toyotagts.service-solutions.com)

Maybe it is just me, but in my mind, this thread has red flags all over it like spam email with a virus. If it is not, I'll delete this post.

I had the same exact thought. The word “Trojan” appears multiple times in the post.

I spent about eight hours reading and searching through posts, because I wanted to be able to use Techstream to program my truck. I've found several posts with links to various versions, but no one ever came back and gave definitive information about their findings, other than "disable your antivirus" and "never connect it to the internet." What I'm trying to do is create a base reference for people that want to try Techstream. Maybe I posted too much data (didn't want to advocate illegal activity - hence my first note that buying Techstream is the way to go). I downloaded several versions just for research purposed, and found viruses in three - so I made notes of the files that contained them.

Thanks Flake. If you download it, run a virus check on the file and report back if it reports any suspicious activity. Did you say, in your PM, that you found a suspicious file in the Autokent version? I'd love more info to update, so we can get people safe access.

I didn't personally, but another person that I trust that is more savvy in computers than I, did. When he alerted me to it, I started looking. The full Autokent iso has a driver/ program he wrote plus whatever the current release is.

I did take a look at the 2 different files and uploaded them. Here is the report https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file...a77c031395aef70d5cf92a9a751ea7b1199/detection

You can package virus's in a way that they do not get detected, such as using a different wrapper or encryption for them.

I think there was some discussion on other boards directly with him about it years ago. Something along the lines of him using code snippets to speed up the coding process and it came back as false positives. Unsure.

Long and short of it is. If we all use the direct link you have in the OP, https://www.toyota-tech.eu/GTS/Wizard/Step5-Software.aspx - it will always have the current version. In this case. 15.000.028

You can still email him for the activation codes for all regions.
    autokent@yandex.ru
Include software version and your software ID
I like to ask for all the codes. You get back all the software versions codes just in case an instance like this where there is a bug happens.

You get back the codes for 5000 days activation.

However 15.00.026 and 15.00.028 have been having issues with some of the computers with an ethernet port.... Wont connect to the vehicle. Techstream recommends using a previous version if you encounter this bug.

    Some links you might want

First- Here is the release notes.

    https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInf...info/html/prelogin/tsrss/ts_new_features.html

    Second - the known bugs

    https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInf...chinfo/html/prelogin/tsrss/ts_known_bugs.html

there is also a thread on Tundra talk where people can post their id and get codes https://www.tundratalk.net/threads/offical-techstream-software-thread-settings-and-such.110099

I've been seeing more about using a "loader" as compared to using a activation code - I understand the loader gets around locking the software to the hardware. Does anything know anything more about the loaders, does Techstream operate the same in either case?

    Yes.

Long and short of it is. I'd prefer a licensed version vs a cracked EXE that could have a potentially malicious code attached undetected yet. That is what a Loader is, an EXE that "loads" the checks and balances without verification. Some of the loaders require additional components from the .net framework and visual studio to run properly and is where people run into issues.

All in all, they all work. They potentially all work the same with the same result.

To add to the "ISSUES" 15.00.xxx was having. I resolved them on my system.

I Uninstalled everything Techstream, Toyota, Autokent, MINIVCI, Delphi, Mongoose, Drewtech, J2534 etc. that I could think of. I then went into the registry (Start - RUN - regedit ---hit enter) and searched for any and all instances of the names I mentioned previously. I manually DELETED ALL of the referenced names and values including parent folders and sub folders that were left over. Did a restart. Windows update. Restarted multiple times for the updates. Searched one last time. Restarted.

Installed the Techstream 15.00.0028 directly from Toyota. Then installed the Driver for the cable I had. DrewTech Mongoose Pro Toyota 2 Green cable for me. Already had the registration codes I got previously from Autokent. Matched the hardware ID/ Software ID and registered all 4 regions. Connected to the truck and all was working perfect with no issues or errors.

My suspicion on the error is that they are caused from a registry conflict in old drivers or similar.

I am actually thinking purchasing TIS from eBay. There are a few selling that have a 2020 version with good reviews.

Wait. What? The Toshiba Toughbook laptop with the software and the interface already installed? Those are all OLD machines. Like really old. They did the same as I mentioned above. Either a Loader or they are "keyed" They have the latest version of the Techstream on it. But so can you flowing the links I posted above.

Most techs I know, They use their own laptop and a Drewtech Mongoose cable. http://drewtech.com/mongoose/toyota2.html. Or the CarDaq Plus 3 the http://drewtech.com/products/cardaqplus3.html . Seen a couple of the Bosch Boxes too.

Personally, I would use whatever laptop I have already (and I do) have a virtual Machine to run the software or run it natively on a Windows machine. A nice touchscreen Tablet running windows, like a surface or similar, would be my preference if I was doing a dedicated diagnostics machine for multiple vehicles.

Invest in a quality diagnostic tool that plugs into a computer. That is the better bet. Requirements for the Techstream software are minimal. Mongoose is what I'm running.

FYI - I have the Toyota Lexus FULL Flash Files for everything in NA..... ~62gb of them and some other media as of April

No just the software and a Mini VCI cable that works with Techstream.

Thinking of getting this and trying it out.

I have a TPMS issue and I want to see if Techstream will identify the fault sensor.

    EDITED....

DO NOT BUY THE SOFTWARE. ONLY LEGIT SELLER IS https://techinfo.snapon.com/TIS/termbill.aspx?action=new

If the cable comes with the software, thats one thing. Software by itself is the same thing everyone here is already using!!! They all generate the codes through the original Cracker/ Coder Autokent. Or buy one of his keygens and generate and sell the codes. LINKS to the release are here already and I posted again below

Yeah,.....Don't buy the software. I didn't realize you were not getting the CABLE with the SOFTWARE as a package. Each computer has a unique ID that is generated by the software and then they generate a code for it. .... Thats what the person is going to do and is selling you something that is already posted here for FREE.... Don't spend the ~$25....

    Just buy the cable.

Again. ____> Here is the software FOR FREE from Toyota directly. https://www.toyota-tech.eu/GTS/Wizard/Step5-Software.aspx

Email this guy for the codes and you'll have them before you wake up in the am or lunchtime at the latest.
    autokent@yandex.ru
Include software version and your software ID
I like to ask for all the codes. You get back all the software versions codes just in case an instance like this where there is a bug happens.

You get back the codes for 5000 days activation.

If you want his releases as they are dropped. https://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5896512 - thats the 15.10.029 right there....... AGAIN FREEEEEEEEE

If you want to buy the software directly from toyota, that is the only LEGIT seller. everyone else is using the same keygens or loaders. Don't pay for whats already free.

I just built my setup a few weeks ago using a dedicated laptop, DrewTech cable, and 15.10.029 version. Between friends and family we have a lot of Toyota's. Where did you get that many flashes, wow. I've not do any flashes, I wasn't sure if the activated version was blocked or deactivate if you try to connect to the server.

What DrewTech Cable did you get? Those seem to be really expensive.

I just picked up this cable. https://www.ebay.com/itm/363025651764

Also does anyone know if you can see the TPMS Sensors with Techstream? I think I have a faulty sensor but not sure. Want to diagnose the issue with Techstream.

I went with the officially approved one, MFC PRO 2 / green case. It's pricey but I have 10-ish Toyota's I looked after, and as long as we keep cars it will likely pay for itself.

Those $30 clones were more pain than it was worth to me. I wanted something that just worked.

Yes, you can see TPMS including battery voltage if I recall.
