It’s a conditioning thing. Put them on. Treats treats treats praise praise praise. Do that for a while. Put them on at hike praise and treats. They then start associating the object with something good. Pretty much how you get your dog acclimated to any new thing.

it works I promise. But don’t rush it. Start with short sessions at home. Then build up. It’ll start with them associating them with treats, then all of a sudden they get to run through trails, brush, water with them on, they will be so jazzed any time you bring them out.

It’s how you get dogs used to muzzles, e collars , prong collars, ex...

 

He ripped his front pads the other day so I booted the front to keep them from getting super dirty or damaged. They’re healing up nice thankfully!

 

I’m lucky with him, I can throw boots on all four paws and he doesn’t care one bit. He’s ready to rock. I didn’t do anything special, from the first time I put them on he just was ready to play.

I don’t really know if I have any pointers, other than maybe putting them on and going somewhere off leash so he doesn’t have time to think about the boots on his paws.

 

Bout a week ago the A/C broke and took a week to get fixed. Foxxy and I stayed at the pool most of the time. I need a bigger pool.










My daughter visited and brought her drahthaars. They enjoyed the pool too.

 

Nice!!! off leash isn’t an option for me yet, except in the yard!!

That’s what I figured I’ve only had my rescue 6 months,and the learning for both of us has been over the top.
Time, patience , frustration, and success has been an ongoing thing!!

 

Almost 24 hours later, he's so hyper, I'm not sure how I'm going to get used to that lol. Having a dog trainer come over later today or tomorrow so our dog can be taught some basic commands and potty training. Also planning on crate training him because I feel like thats the right thing to do with any dog, especially dogs who are hyper and may get into trouble when unsupervised. Ducky the dog pooped on the floor 6 times over the night so that was a fun experience.

 

Crate training will definitely help you house break him. It’s all about consistency too.

 

Get him outside to do some nose work,a game of find it
Kong with peanut butter( no xylitol) and banana frozen.

I agree. I'd go so far as to say two years old.

 

Fixing wont cure humping. It takes training. Sounds like it may be from over stimulation but theres a number of other possible reasons.

 

When my dog gets super excited, like hasn’t seen me in a week cause I’m traveling, he starts air humping. He’s probably only ever done it a handful of times, but when he does I die laughing. It’s like he can’t control it, I need to get it on video.
