yeah I think the bottom 3rd or so on the gusset would be a good place to start. The top section lines up pretty good.

Fixed my p0303 code yesterday. Course it was the ign coil that was in a shit spot to go out on me. How often do these things go bad?

Does adding a satoshi grille with the smallest holed mesh affect the truck’s radiator and AC condenser’s functionality?

 

OEM or Denso made coil packs generally last 75k+ miles, while many see 150k+ on them.
I haven't used an offbrand one yet so no experience there, but I've read if it's like most off brand or parts store brand stuff, I'd expect 20k+ miles or so and anything above that would be icing on the cake.
Did it have Denso markings on it or made in Japan sticker on the box, that kind of stuff?

Like anything their life depends on how you maintain the truck as a whole

If you run your plugs way out of gap thats hard on coils

If the resisitance between the plug is greater then between the wires in the coil the coil will internally short

 

I should add, I have replaced off brand ones that have crapped out on customers vehicles before the other original OEM ones did. So I do believe there is definitely a difference in quality between a Denso or OEM coilpack and a cheap Chinese one. We know cheap electronics don't seem to produce good consistent results on Toyotas in general. And coilpacks are definitely electronic and not electric.
Some do say when one coilpacks goes, to replace them all. I'm not necessarily in that boat unless they're all over 200k miles kinda thing. Simple enough to replace as they fail on our spunky lil 4 bangers.

 

Yes I saw it said Toyota on it but not sure what it was from possibly The originals? I replace the coil and then it proceeded to misfire for the first half of the drive on the freeway and then it stopped randomly halfway through it. Not sure if it will return on the way back but will update. Is that normal? Computer maybe recognizing it?

 

Did you disconnect the battery when you replaced the coil?

 

Coils typically last a long time, hell my
Tacos original are still good at 300k and my corollas are still good at over 800k.


But internally they can fail.. not
Common but does happen.
Aftermarkets (unless it’s Denso) do tend to fail more, but the bigger issue is when the aftermarkets fail, they like to kill the ignition circuit until you unplug it.. aka nothing works

 

Mmm, typically if the coilpack was the source of the issue, it would correct right away.
Might be the spark plug itself in that cylinder 3. Did you take a peek at the plug by chance? If not, and you get misfiring again and code is for #3, you can snap a pic of spark plug and we can tell pretty well if it's been firing correctly and that kinda stuff.

The most common, easiest, least time consuming initial step to troubleshoot a misfire is swap around the supposed faulty cylinder coilpack(#3) with not faulty one(#1 or #2 or #4) and see if the code follows to the new cylinder where you installed the 'theoretically' bad coil pack.
If code still stays with cyl #3, you know to check things that stayed with that third cylinder, spark plug, fuel injector, etc

 

Yes to reset the cel. The cel wasnt flashing on the missfiring just now, but probs cause computer resetting. Wondering how long i can run this coil before returning it if it comes back

If p0303 was the code, how can he automatically know its the coil and not spark plugs? The obdII readers will say its coils vs the plugs?

 

Im gonna throw the oem one back in if it returns and go back. The duralast coil i bought was 80 bones but lifetime warranty

Miss fire is still there. Once i hit 3k rpms plus in third it happens

 

Guess imma swap the coils back. And get plugs and wires. Theres nothing else it could be correct? And howd this guy tell me the wrong part lol
