so, i just got a 2020 sr5 and the hood will flex like beer can aluminum when i drive. I saw posts about the glue in the hood supports failing so i looked at mine and the glue is degraded. I could buy some liquid nails or something, but im gonna go in to service today and see what they say. Looks like an easy fix, but if this simple thing is failing it makes me wonder what else is sub par

literally just picked my truck up from having this issue fixed on Friday. They put a claim in to Toyota for a new hood but Toyota wanted the body shop to try and fix it before approving a new hood. Looks like they missed a few spots on mine but it is 10x better now. Mine is a 2020 TRD OR bought in January. I think people were recommending 3m body panel adhesive on some of the other posts about it.

Well im very happy to hear everyone's hood problem worked out. I went in and they gave me an appointment for tue at 9am. I so want to just fix it, but toyota should deal with their own problem. I figure the more they have to repair, the more likely they are to start using better glue.

My 2019 SR5 had failed hood skin glue when I bought it last summer. It's very common, do a search on here for hood vibration and you'll find a number of threads. Toyota should be dealing with this, but they don't seem to care about this particular issue. When I took my truck to the dealer for the 5K service I asked them look at my very obviously unglued hood. They acknowledged it was a problem, but were super luke warm about doing anything about it. They thought the hood would have to be replaced, painted etc... not simply re glued with the proper material. No thanks. I passed on going down that rabbit hole after reading about the shit shows that others on here experienced going that route. I should have invoiced them for the $40 bucks I spent on the fix just to be a pain in the ass. I ended up buying some 3m 4274 NVH damping material and took care of it myself as soon as the weather was warm enough this spring. It was very easy.

There were quite a few threads regarding this and some of them had good pictures showing how to fix it.

I’m traveling or I’d post up the threads.

    Good luck.

Likely they’ll sublet it to a local bodyshop to fix. You may have to physically show them what you’re talking about

Is this only a issue with non- scooped hoods?

Personally haven't seen cases about it for those with the scoop.

Even my coworkers brand new SR5 had the problem. Thought it was normal and asked how I dealt with it....

Scooped hoods having the complex curves should be stronger.

Scooped hoods do not vibrate....more curves and better bracing. Scooped and non-scooped hoods use the same adhesive. Gen 3 non-scooped hoods are simply too long, too thin and flat. Gen 2 Tacomas have the same adhesive problem but it is not as noticeable because the hood is shorter. I have had three Gen 2 Tacomas...an SR, an Off Road and a Sport. The Gen 2 Sport showed the least vibration. I bought A 2018 Sport instead of an Off Road for this very reason. The 3M adhesive can work if you use the right adhesive and the correction is done right. DO NOT try the repair with any other adhesive. (Been drivin' Tacomas since 1992. They ain't what they used to be.)

Don't even think about fixing this yourself on a brand new truck!! Dealer. Make them make it right.

My 2018 had this issue, clearly they still haven't fixed it.

My local dealer brought it to a body shop and had it re-glued in a few days. No questions asked.

Yeah, took it in today. They are going to put on a new hood. May take a few days though, but they gave me a corolla loaner car. Hey, those are pretty good turns out. They also did an alignment because the steering wheel was off center by ¾ of an inch. Geez, so much drama for a brand new truck.

Liquid nails would make everything worse.

Its more of a dampening material/adhesive than one that is supposed to glue the hood skin to the supports. I think someone already mentioned it, but there's some 3M stuff that you're supposed to use.

I just ignored it because its not a big deal. Most of the adhesive on mine is fine. Some degraded, but its whatever.
