Hey, I got a front bumper again!

 

Update. Cooled off so I moved a little quicker today.

 

I think I’m on the downhill with this. Gonna put the braces in, gussets and clean it up. Should have tin on it tomorrow and it’ll look like a bed again!

*lights are just held there with tape, had to give the wife an idea of how they will be. Recessed so I lessen the chance of hitting them on the trail.

 

Ran out of diamond plate. So finishing up odds and ends before going to get some more. Tail lights, bumper needs welded, sand/ paint prep. Etc

 

Glad to see an SR5 build as I picked up a used 2016 in good shape as a base for my project. I was missing a truck for far too long and this is my first Taco. Enjoying it and getting ideas. Thanks

 

Yeah sr5 was a great idea for what I had in mind. There’s a few others that are pretty built up and they are nice to see.

 

Painted and lights are wired up. Drove the truck around too.

Much of a difference in the weight? Looks pretty sweet and stout!

 

probably added like 50-75lbs with this bed. The bumper is approx 40lbs lighter though + hitch. So it may be a wash at that point.

I can’t remember what it was. I know the body armor bumper weighed a bit more and the hitch is pretty hefty itself. I’d be curious to know the weight

 

Love your jack conversion, where did you got the wheels for it? Is is rated to hold your truck? Never seen such thing.

 

Everything but the rod and washers can be bought at harbor freight! They sell the wheels too. Each wheel is rated for 1100lbs. So I figure if I only lift a quarter of the truck up at one time it should be plenty. I have a YouTube video explaining it if interested.

It works pretty well. It’s been used offroad on my truck and a buddies.

Finally made a tailgate. It’s not perfect but it holds the stuff in the bed and that was much needed for our trip to the lake.

It will hold the license plate and back up camera, also recessed like the lights. It lays down like normal but is higher than the deck of the bed, still can sit in it, cook on it, etc. just need to attach the cables.

While I’m at it I’ll get the crossbar that goes under the window done after vacay. Checking things off the list, slowly but surely.

What an interesting trip to the lake. This is the first real drive with the truck in public.

We had some interesting reactions

Gas station (on the way there) drunk- yaaaa mannnn sldjghskshfinfki! (Gibberish)

Walmart stop- old man with cane- stops and looks for over 5 mins, lol. That’s a real nice truck you got there

Everyone on road- breaking necks...... trying to get in front of me. Lol weird cause I drive at 70 (speed limit) but my speedo is off by 7 at that speed so really I’m going 77mph.

Dudes in a big ass Chevy (2016+) had a lawncare company sticker on back. I’m sure they were all wearing affliction shirts and tapout flat bills- yells out the window “faggot!” Good times, my family was not in the truck lol

Another gas station stop while at the lake- old man-I assume drunk or something- literal gibberish that I could not understand, followed by a thumbs up and a two tooth smile!

Fellow tacoma owner stopped to talk for a bit while we were at the resort. Cool dude. Sold his for Tundra.

Younger guy in a BMW on the highway home, slows to get next to me then a big from him and his kid, before speeding off lol
