    Pretty neat. Also not sure I like the canopy without the frame...

    But I do like that the mattress is an Exped. Making it that 2" wider than the GFC is going to be great for sleeping comfort from that regard.

    The bed in general is larger. Its more like the Vagabond in that regaurd. The floor always has an open section. So there is more over hang.

    Be cool either way. No budget for that crap though.

    I'm not looking to do it again. If I had a coil bucket to use as an example I'd just build a whole new set out of 1/4". 3/16 will be perfect, the weight between the two for something this size will be negligible anyway. But it makes it so I don't have to also have coil bolt pattern circles cut out of 3/16 to reinforce that on top of an 1/8 bucket reinforcement. But hey that's why I'd offer the DXF, I don't care to argue it with folks who know what they want, not my build not my problem.

    I feel like is positioned to be in between the GFC and the Vagabond. The design without the frame is a lite-duty drifter and at 300# it is a little more than the GFC.

    Price (not intro) will be in between as well.

    1/4" or go home. :rolleyes:

    I'm using the top hats from @eimkeith which are 3/16 so matching mostly. But also...why not? Beat the hell out of them now.

    Yeah it's cool to see another option. Some cool feature on it for sure. Lot of money still though..too much for me.

    Well..that bucket will be 1/4" after I'm done does that count? Haha

    I have no idea who you're talkin about. All I know is I'm building wrap around reinforcements out of 3/16. To use your metaphor. Instead of stacking two sheets of paper I'm going to use a sheet of cardstock to reinforce my paper. Thank you for coming to my TED talk

    Sort of true.

    Brett added a ring but he did not weld it to his top hat. It was really just one giant washer that the three bolts passed through.

    Eimkeiths is made to be welded to the truck.

    I'm basically.aking wrap over reinforcements just in three pieces. His is the top and I'm making the sides and will weld them all together on the bucket.

    And I'm sorry but the maybe 2lb difference between 1/8" and 3/16" for this job is not worth fighting over. Haha Im going for overbuilt not "good enough". There is too much evidence of this being a problem we all should be worried about and I don't want to ever have to redo it.

    This isn't the same as like talking about 1/8 vs 3/16 for skid plates to me.

    I'm underway for the rear stuff already. Been working on my axle. Need to get this front stuff made but I'm hesitant to rip the engine out until the Lexus sells. I'm not going to put any LT shit on without the reinforcements.

    A catastrophic failure, the worst case scenario, takes an unbelievable amount of effort to overcome. I sure hope that no one else has to go through that.

    Difficult to be certain of that. I don't think there was any evidence of impending failure. I was certainly aware and looking.

    It may be that the only certain way to know is to actually remove the CO and inspect that way. Otherwise the beginnings of cracks are too easily hidden.

    I do but I'm prepared to build my dream truck now and I want it out of the way, or I'll spend more money on it and slow down the truck build. It's a matter of priority, I like the truck more and I want to build it because ideally it's a toy I can use to escape home and work and hang out with folks like you. And that's far more interesting than beating a couple of kids in Subarus to work. Which I can probably do in a turbo Tacoma anyway, cause let's face it Subarus are lame as fuck. So the Lexus will go, I'll find another, or maybe I won't. Either way I got to play with it and work on a 2J, and save a car from neglect. What could be better?

    My thoughts on the coilbucket -

    A - check frequently and repair before its a serious issue. If you blew out your coilbucket, there was probably evidence it was about to fail long before hand. Sorry Mike. Add it to your list of pre-trip inspection items.

    B - I still think a crossbrace between the buckets to prevent flex would be one of the best solutions. I would have one already if I had access to a bender.

    there are a few in the area every year. And In some ways, I will end up there. Just can't now. No shop space for that kind of build. Hopefully some day though.

    Crossbrace would be best for sure. But Im in the same boat, I don't have a bender....well actually I do but again, no room to use and I don't want to install it at my rental and piss off the land lord or neighbor rental.

    I have the DD brackets for it though. Sitting on a shelf...

    Either way, I think reinforcing the bucket itself is not a bad idea.
