Worst Year for 2nd gen tacos ?

Thanks for playing but no. It's not the same even if it 'visually' looks similar on the outside and roughly the same size.

 

2006 with 120K and no problems to report, except maybe squeaky brakes and leaf springs, and the chirping vent blower fan thing that others have mentioned. Oh, and that damn gas pedal keeps getting stuck at full throttle. I hate when that happens.

 

It was from an article I read back in 2004. When I was considering the 2005 Tacoma.

 

Sometimes (not always) the first model year of a redesign has a few problems and bugs that are usually worked out by the next year. The 05 motor mount issue would concern me, but other than that the 2nd gens are all pretty much equally reliable.

 

Not a dependability issue, but I hate the redesign of the rear cabin in the 09+ ACs. The 05-08s were more versatile if you wanted to switch between cargo or pax...you could use the seats or unfold it to the ground to have a nice flat surface. The 09+ seems like it's geared more towards just pax, which no one in their right mind would get an AC to seat people in the rear frequently. Had a choice between 08 and 09 on D-Day and went with the more versatile rear of the 08. Just my 2 cents.

I would personally buy any year model at the time I was looking. These are overall great trucks. You can nit pick probs with any year model but not everyone will have those issues.

i have a 2005 with 125k+ and that thing is solid. a squeaky leaf spring sometimes is about the extent of my issues.

You are confusing TRD vs not.

 

06 is great so far 80,000 kms no problems, original brakes, just squeels at start up now...

 

The rear seats for the access cab were changed considerably in 2009.

 

Ive jumped my 05 plenty of times and haven't had any issues yet.

 

Just sold my 2007 tacoma after 150,000 trouble free miles. Now driving 2010 with 5000 miles.

 

Have owned a 2008 and now a 2010. Both have been rock solid... So I would have to say the worst years are the ones I have not owned.

 

Looking back through the recalls the 05's and 06's had a few issues but that's to be expected with a new model change. They seemed to fix those problems with the 07's then some new issues arose with the 08's or 09's (automatic shifting problems and the screwed up radio's come to mind.)

 

where is the cabin filter? That squeak drives me nuts!

 

Oh, then it must be true. It also must be true that Toyota makes a mythical truck in between the Tundra and the Tacoma because a woman i used to work with's husband "just bought one".

Just because the older Tundra and the T100 were roughly the same size, they were NOT the same truck as the 2nd gens are.

 

ive only had my front timing cover leak on my 05 and i am at 161,500 miles right now other than not any other problem.

 

Haha yeah, man. That nice flat surface came in handy when I had to throw in all my mob bags...and just miscellaneous stuff in general. But it also is able to accommodate my god kids and neices/nephews...kids are really the only people who sit back there. Flexibility is the key to Air Power!

The rear of the cabin is what I was referring to when I made my statement. The 09+ 2nd gen ACs are unable to have their seats fold down flat in the rear like the 05-08. But other than that, everything else is the same. Just noting the differences and stating my preference.

 

2007 is the best year in my opinion. cant speak for the others. I say they are all good. but typically the first year of a new style has more bugs.
