    What bits were you using? I bought kobalt bits and the first one broke right a way and the second seems to have gone dull because it isn't getting any deeper. Did you start with the bit sized to take the bolt you needed or did you step up slowly?

    Start with a smaller pilot drill then step up.

    That's what I did. The small pilot hole went okay but when I stepped up the bit broke, and the next step up isn't going anywhere. Am I just not using enough pressure?

    On my skids, there were two holes I had to drill out.

    Step up as you go, makes it easier.

    It does require a bit of pressure. Like @llamasmurf said, try using a jack to apply pressure.

    I need to get up to 1/2 inch. I started with a small bit, maybe 1/8 inch, maybe less.

    watch the breakthrough though when your stepping up it can grab

    drilling with a hand drill is a giant PITA lol

    I drilled six 1/2" dia. holes to mount my 2nd gen CBI sliders. Best method I found:
    • Transfer punch
    • Center-drill a small dimple.
    • Drill through with a stepped bit with titanium nitride coating. Once the TiN coating wears away, replace drill bit. The stepped bit's flute design reduces kickback at breakthrough. I get the cheap Mastercraft ones ($10 for a 3-pack when on sale).
    • I don't use a jack, instead a close-quarter drill with a lockable trigger.
    • Use a lot of coolant/oil/cutting fluid.

    The 7 pin trailer connector and junction box idea worked really friggen well...

    IMG_20200628_162304.jpg
    IMG_20200628_164735.jpg

    Added in 3 new wires to the wiring harness that goes between the front and the rear;
    2 sets of 10ga for the junction box and future 42"bar, reused the 2 sets of 16ga for the pods, and added a 18ga for the bed lights.
    Replumbed the harness through 1/2" non-split tube which was a pain to route from the rear to the front.
    At the 7pin connector, routed a wire for the junction box which (God, thank you for riv-nuts) and set up wiring for the bed light kit (12v led strip lighting).

    Tomorrow will be wiring the bedlights and the truck will be ready for the 42inch bar, CB antenna, and whatever else i decide to add. Other than that - I'm done

    This is a long overdue post:

    Even though I'm a new member and I was only able to meet some of you just a handful of times, I have received a great deal of help.

    Here's just a few of the great people who helped me find a direction and set me to motion on this adventure of having a Tacoma!

    ( I'm sure I don't remember everyone who contributed, please accept my sincere apologies )

    So here they are (in order of occurence):

    @tacoma16

    Thank you for all the info and explanation ( last M&G ). You helped me clarify the route I want to go with the truck!

    @pete37

    Thank you for market research and, in fact, helping me save money on parts! Will be back for more 100%!

    DSC_0095.jpg

    @Norilsk

    Big thanks for all the info you sent my way and directing me to a great shop that did my exhaust reroute! I recommend this place 100%!

    DSC_0121.jpg

    Finally @3JOH22A

    Biggest Thank You for this guy who spent the whole past weekend in an over hydrated air and excessive solar radiation on my driveway wrenching with me to get my truck lifted! ( He did most of it. At times I had to get him out from under the truck to do some of it myself! :rofl:) Also, thank you for all the info on the tiny things that made a world of difference!
    The most astonishing was the fact that he did all that just because I asked. You sure did restore a lot of my faith in humanity!!!

    DSC_0025.jpg
    DSC_0018.jpg
    DSC_0024.jpg He also did the alignment using a fish line , electronic level and a ruler!!! Absolutely mind blowing!!!

    I'm really happy with the outcome (despite slight vibe from the rear).
    I guess it's time to take it off the pavement...

    appreciation all around then:drunk:
    my truck would have been a literal flaming wreckage without the help of everyone here.

    it's entirely my new hobby for tinkering since i've slowed down working on computers (too many impatient people loose their minds trying to fit a square peg into a square hole... and wont listen to reason and buy mis-matched parts expecting me to figure out how to get it to work...)
