As of Monday, every establishment in KCMO is supposed to require mask-wearing. Other than that, nothing I'm aware of. I would recommend Gates, but I'm a transplant here form Wisco and haven't tried too much of the BBQ. Someone in here ought to know about places to park in KS.

I have masks. But with me going cross country I don’t want to draw attention by sitting at a bar with people or anything like that, so I’ll probably just take stuff to go.

thank you for the heads up and advice!

I'm biased so I would choose Gates BBQ too. There are others such as Q39, Jack Stack, Arthur Bryants, Joe's BBQ, and others.

Can't offer any suggestions on parking in KS though, good luck!

Joe's KC BBQ, Blind Box BBQ, and Gates are all in that area. If you can get up to the NE corner of the metro, I suggest you go to Wabash in Excelsior Springs. Wabash and Blind Box are my two favorites.

As for sleeping, Walmart parking lots are good, but you'll have to go inside for the restroom and I'm not sure if any of them are 24 hour now. I don't have a lot of good info for sleeping places because I live here lol. There are some places that you could stop at a campground to sleep, one of them close to Wabash :anonymous:.

If you're going to Wabash, I'll meet you there. I kind of like it a lot.

Sweet deal, thanks for the heads up!

Re: Walmart - yeah, considered that, I'll have to find a place to back in against a wall or woods or something, I don't have front plates and would want to hide that I'm a traveler from out of state kipping up for the night :p I don't want to draw attention. And for the same reason, I will politely reject your meetup offer - Michigan is on my list before this and that's a hot spot, apparently. So, I'm not going to be partying with people on my trip.

I have zero planned destinations in KC other than food. In theory I'm getting into KC around 5:30 for dinnertime, and heading out at like 8 AM the next morning. I'm sure it's a lovely place and I might add it into a "visit again" list, but for this go-around it'll be a flyby unfortunately. The next day is me leaving for OK to see friends for a few hours and then getting into Dallas at like 7:30 PM (planned), so I don't want to stick around KC too long unfortunately. Basically get BBQ and then leave :(

BUT since I am visiting friends the next day I probably will see if I can't pull off a truck stop shower near KC :p

I totally understand. I hope your BBQ adventure finds you full and covered in sauce. Burnt ends are a very KC BBQ thing if you're into it.

Hey man, I'm looking forward to it. I'm going to Nashville, then KC, then Texas for a few days, then New Orleans, then the Carolinas, so I get it all - plus, I'm from New England, so I get that normally.

I feel bad for my GI tract in July.

Edit: Michigan first but, as far as BBQ, "Meh". I will probably get a slice of deep dish just to say I did it, even though I am a NY style fan myself.

Oh boy, that actually sounds awesome. I'd get all the BBQ going through those places.

I'll be completely honest here: In Austin, I may end up getting something "healthy" instead. When we went to Austin a few months ago, I had so much goooood vegan food (wife is vegan, I are not). By that time I might just need some roughage.

Well, I am going to Buffalo, NY first ("first"), so I gotta get buffalo wings. Then out to Michigan for deep dish pizza :puke:(but hey, when in Rome....)

Then down to Nashville, then St. Louis - so St. Louis is only stop #2 for BBQ! KC is #3, then Texas is #4 through however many I stop at. Not sure that I'll do BBQ in New Orleans, feel like I should do something else there.... then Carolinas. I'm not a big Carolinas BBQ guy, too much vinegar.

Plus side, I'm not a big red meat guy, I go for sausage and turkey as my top attractions, so I won't be just stuffing my face with beef for 2 weeks straight at least.
