Either route above would be cool and getting off those paths for 20 miles this or that way can really show you some pretty Texas

I'm not from California. Is that enough? :boink:

Thanks! I was actually thinking something like that, but not as far west - Basically hit up Spider Mountain to check it out (Burnet) and then head south from there, but I could be convinced to swing it a bit wide....When in Rome, y'know? :)

I'm actually toying with the idea of cutting Michigan/Grand Rapids, and spending more time in TX. Problem is, this time of year is the best time to go out to the great lakes! And it's not quite the best time to go visit Texas in the middle of the day.... :D

That said, the goal is to move to Texas. The goal is not to move to Michigan, so I think I'll focus on spending some time up in upstate NY (Niagara falls) and the great lakes/Grand Rapids MI while I'm close and there anyway, and fly-by texas for a few days. Once we move to Texas you bet, I'll be doing more of these trips but as day/weekend/long weekend trips rather than a 2 week runaround. :)

If you plan on hitting any of the fabulous state parks here, make sure you have a reservation. They aren’t letting anyone in even for day use without one.

The only place I'm going to outside of cities is Spider Mountain bike park - and I won't even be riding, it'll just be to check it out :(

Thanks for the heads up though! I will keep that in mind as I start to actually plan routes and activities and foods, right now I only have planned major stops and cities.

I think this little trail is worth it to get the feels. I also think Garner also represents lots of the Hill Country treasures you won't have time to hit up pretty well.

    Texas
I'm good with Californians. I think anyone from the US should be allowed to come to Texas, but the first 3 years are probationary, and if any 5 different Texans file a unique complaint against the probationary Texan for being a dickhead, dumbass, douchebag, or know-it-all, then your out...you have to go back where you came from. We're doing a pretty good job down here, and we don't need people who aren't going to positively contribute. Good news is you drive a Tacoma, so it's likely you're going to do fine.

I've also been considering the Travis County problem...the simple solution would be to just fence the whole damn thing, but that's problematic as I have family, and some really good friends there, and there are enough good folks there that I'd hate to trap, not to mention I'd hate to give up a good bit of the western side of the county. Fencing Austin proper would be a challenge with as gerrymandered as it's borders are. Maybe the solution is one of those invisible fences, and we just figure out who needs to wear a shock collar. No matter what though, a solution needs to be found to try to contain the general goofiness that seems to proliferate there.
