1st gen 105 amp bolt in alternator.

    Finally got around to installing the 105 alt. As stated in previous post it was pretty straight forward.
    I was prepared to drill out the adjustment hole but there was no need to in my case. The long 14mm bolt on front of the alternator fit and the bolt that screws to into the back (12 or 14mm) that you tighten once you have the belt adjusted fit.
    Also, it’s plug n play. I cleaned the plug with electrical cleaner and smeared some delectric grease on the pins and snapped it into the new alternator.
    I can’t really give a good comparison right now because I haven’t driven at night yet. I’ll post an update when I do.

    I just picked one of these up on Amazon a week or two back. Finally got here. Gonna throw it on while I am doing the timing belt, water pump, valve covers etc... Boy that while you're in there sure starts adding up :p

    Did you relocate the main block ground wire to the alternator bracket? Or is that an additional ground?

    That's an additional 4 gauge ground.

    interesting but why would you want a higher alternator charge on the battery. if the alternator is always making power when running?

    Let me put it this way;

    The higher output from alternator is to provide extra juice to additional accessories. Any extreme usage on a regular alternator will smoke out the diodes & kill the battery.

    Well so far I’m very happy with the swap. I took the below pics today while at a red light (turn signal on, brake lights, ac on, radio with under seat sub on).
    I mention the turn signal because with the original 80 amp alternator the VDO gauge needle would drop a little with each blink of the turn signal. Needle doesn’t move now.
    Also included a pic of the Ultragauge reading at the same time.

    I ran an additional separate positive cable directly from the battery to the alternator,

    Did you do that?
    Not sure what the results are with or without that being done.
    It will split the current or load through the cables I believe back to the battery

    I do have a 4 gauge positive cable running from the alternator, to a bussmann circuit breaker, and then to the battery.
    I left the factory wiring in place (alternator through the fuse block to battery).
    I had this same setup with the the factory 80amp.

    you may want consider relocating that ground on the alternator to where the factory ground is on the block. It’s a good practice to have your grounds bond at the same location.

    I did also add a 4 guage negative cable to the body from the battery where the original ground strap was at

    Upgrading the wires/cables is normally a good idea. You just don’t want to be adding ground wires to different points of the vehicle especially in the engine bay. If you google star point grounding there’s a lot of good information on why.

    Ok, I didn’t add a new location, thinking about it I changed the thin cable to a 4 guage to the original place it was grounded, figured this would be good?
