Hey everyone, I just want to give my experience purchasing and installing from lapoltba. He shipped my order out very fast and I had it in my hands in a few days. Harness is high quality and made the process very simple. I've installed several car stereos so taking interior panels off isn't a big deal to me, but don't feel intimidated by this install, it is very doable. Install time was right around an hour or so, could probably do it in half that time now knowing exactly what I have to do. If you're burning up your clutch backing up a trailer like I was, this will solve your problem!

Tested it out after install, made a mistake and had 2LO flashing at me because after having the clutch TSB i need to absolutely floor my clutch to start and I believe that was hanging up a successful switch to 4Lo (i mean, 2lo). So nice being able to crawl around and turn the wheel in reverse without baja'n around or slipping the clutch braking to keep it slow. Im so glad I got this done as I'm going on a camping trip tomorrow and I won't fear ruining my clutch backing up into our camp spot!

    Thanks so much!

I believe that you can adjust the clutch limit switch position. There is a clutch adjustment section in the Service Manual that get passed around:

Pfft! Quick reading in the shitter. :D

The hero that created this pulled all info for each section, so there is some repeated info.

That said, it is indexed, so you don't have to scroll through it all.

So I’m getting visor cards printed up for us. I have an old roommate who runs a small print shop.

Do we have a good feel for MT vs AT ratio? I’m guessing at least 2-1? Maybe 3-1?

Anyone object to this plan? I’m planning to print at least 100 of these, budgeted around $300 ish for the run, all content from big white TRD as linked in an early post on this thread. I gave them my stock card so they have exact dimensions and thickness but apparently it’s a vinyl substrate which is harder to do. So, we may go with a laminated card instead to avoid blowing up on price.

EDIT: Ordering info in this post:

Hey... just got the install done this weekend and everything went really smooth. I still have to get used to the initiation sequence but it works like a champ when I get it right.

I did have a question. Is it normal to get some tire hop in the rear end on a really sharp turn and the 2WLo on? I back up my fairly steep driveway every day and have a 90 degree turn at the top to park.

The front wheels are definitely disengaged (which is the point of the mod) and if I lock the Rear Diff, it binds up tight when turning (so I don't think the issue is my diff lock is stuck). I imagine that the limited slip on the rear is what I'm experiencing, but wanted to ask in case I've got something else that I need to look into.

Yes, with no weight in the bed, the ass-ed of our trucks is pretty light. With the nose pointed downhill, there is even less normal force to create traction.

I don't think it's really a hop from a light ass-end and higher torque though. It's more like the rear diff is locked and since the outside tire has to travel further than the inside; one has to give and I get a hop. Like I said, if I engage the OR Locker it's hard to move at all with the wheels turned, but without it I still get this hop that I didn't expect when the wheel is turned all the way.

Like @lapoltba said, if you're turning tight in reverse, that inside tire has a lot of load to pull against and is lightly loaded. As an experiment on flat ground, put your Taco in neutral and push it straight ahead. Now, turn the wheels to full left lock and try to push it forward. Even a half turn of the wheel increases the force needed by a lot.

Do be careful as reverse is the weak direction for the diff and we now have almost 2.6 times the torque. Shock loads or heavy throttle should be avoided as much as we can.

Wait.... You're locking your diff and then turning sharp? o_O

That's your wheel hop problem. No need to lock up while turning, esp on a driveway. Save the locker for the mud.

I believe he tried the locker as a test to see if the rear was accidentally locked. Even open, that inside tire is gonna suffer at full lock reversing up hill.

I would have to hear/see it, but I still think one side is loosing traction. I have had it happen myself even backing up in a straight line. Vehicle dynamics are very different and what it takes to get a "hop" moving forward is definitely not the same in reverse. Try it without traction control (long press the button) and see if it does the same thing.
