I thought that was pretty widely reported, that most of these new cases are in the 20-30 year old populations going to the bars.

I don't think it's a surprise here that death rates are going down as we (a) better protect and (b) have more understanding on treatments to sustain life during infection.

There's also an important number/graph too:
    2020-06-29 12_09_45-US Corona case counts - Google Search.jpg

So yeah, looks like the rate is going up on reopening (shocking). So if you're making decisions based on numbers, this is important too.

My opinion: F IT. We're at 0.5% mortality rate, seasonal flu is 0.1, cancer is 0.15, so it's rough but, screw it. And with your chart, we're seeing those rates drop, and that older folks were more likely to die - literally it went up by 10 year age groups in your chart. And, even young kids like 0-10 were not more likely.

BUT PANIC. Will be interesting if the chart you supplied does spike back up a bit on reopening - I don't think it will spike like it did originally but I think it will get a new hiccup.

The best time to invest was yesterday or tomorrow. You'll never know which, so the best time is today.

This doesn't surprise me. They're basically using the Chinese military for human testing of a vaccine. Problem is: The Chinese military (despite jokes) is (a) extremely well set up and (b) extremely well maintained and (c) in the best shape of their lives. So, if there are ill effects, they'll be minimized. Other vaccines are close to that level of testing, too, but with a little bit more....caution? I guess you could say, than the Chinese military will use :)

Agree here. My chart was strait off the CDC.gov website. Link below.

    https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid_weekly/index.htm

My state North Carolina is one of the new "Hot Spot" states. The governor implementing a statewide executive order mandating face masks due to the increase in cases last Friday. The truth is yes, we do have an increase in cases in North Carolina. But it is due to more testing. The trend line on the total number of daily tests done. And the trend line on the total number of positives chart (not shown) almost match exactly.
The truth to me is in the chart below. NC opened up everything but gyms and bars 3rd week on May. If you look below at the Positive Tests as a Percentage of Total Tests chart. It has remained flat. Hospitalizations for CV-19 did rise about 23% during that time but have been flat for about 7 days and now are actually falling. ICU beds were never past 75% capacity and Ventilators never past 26% capacity.

Hey I'll actually be out there soon for a road trip :D

That said, yeah - the US as a whole, the testing amount has stayed the same, so your actual positive tests per total tests, if you will, has gone up in the US. Sure, not in NC.

I dunno, I think we're all in the same boat: initial reaction was warranted, continued reaction is understandable but shenanigans.

We should hope this will become the narrative. The spike in cases was certainly something worthy of getting our attention, maybe a little jolt to get some people to be a little more careful, but now we can dig into the numbers and see that if we keep it away from certain populations and not let it go crazy, it can pass through the population without doing horrible damage. And maybe we can move forward with cautious optimism, when before it was maybe too overly optimistic and then turned to fear of doom too quickly. Keep marching forward steadily.

    serious question.

recommend any bbq out that way? I’ll be hitting up Charleston and Greenville SC and then heading to the outer banks general area, Croatan reserve and then heading north. Bouncing around a bit but want to check out the area.

I won’t have much in terms of stuff to do, I know everything is closed and I don’t want to be Typhoid Mary by going all these places. Basically doing a big trip for take out.

today has been nice to me so far. I was expecting crap when I went to bed, woke up to a pleasant surprise of nothing happening and now we’re at least green.

I live in Central NC. All NC Restaurants those still surviving anyways, are open at 50% capacity for dine in if you wish. If your headed North out of the Outer banks and it's not too much out of the way I would check out Lexington NC. Basically the town is built around BBQ. I would highly recommend BBQ Center, Speedy's BBQ and Lexington BBQ #1. All are excellent. My wife make us take the 20 mile trip once every couple of months to BBQ Center for their smoked chicken. If there try the Banana Splits But be hungry! Check out the link.

I have zero ambition to eat inside. I might have to a time or two, but the goal is take out, I'll have a lawn chair and folding table with me so the dog can sit outside with me. That's why I'm not super concerned with taking this trip, I know museums and places to visit etc. And no desire to eat inside because of the dog, so even better!

Don't have a hell of a sweet tooth so probably not on the ice cream for me. I can handle a milkshake time to time. My weight control issues are related to ribs not twinkies :p
