If you had been going closer to Chicago (or rather Naperville), I'd suggest Portillo's.

Just saw there is a ferry that goes from Muskegon to Milwaukee.... MAYBE.

It does look like the drive along the lake from Milwaukee down is a lot less "nice" looking than going down from Grand Rapids area on the eastern shore. That's a TBD. But, I will note it as a destination if I end up doing that!

You have a quite a trip, my dude! Quite jealous.

I'm going west in September, 2nd try this year at visiting either MOAB or Grand Canyon. (tried in April, COVID-19 was basically peaking, so plans were postponed)

I’m considering a trip out to Moab this year since all my plans got shit canned. No Alaska trip. No Expo. No Baja. No fun allowed.

Don't talk about out west, so jealous. Would love to head out that way, but I think that's just too much. I did rough out a plan to get to Los Angeles, it's basically 8AM to 8PM every day just driving, and getting back the day before I have to go back to work. No bueno.

PS - I just looked, ferry: 100 bucks for the truck, 100 bucks for me, kenneling the dog. I'm going to go with a big fat no on that one, SO maybe next time.

I would love to do Alaska someday. Not for a couple years though.

We're planning on September. Only 2 Tacos going as far as I know. Let me know if interested in a tag a long.

I hear ya, man. My thoughts on an Alaskan trip would require at least 2 weeks of vacation. Which I can swing, but damn, that's a lot of vacation time.

Damn @ the cost of ferry.

I did this trip 2 years ago from eastern Iowa with @Tigerian. Left on Sunday, was back the following Sunday.

I guess you could do Alaska in 2 weeks, if you just want to get to the southern tip and come back. I’ve been planning 3-4 weeks to get to prudhoe bay and back.

Actually with the new job, it’s way more doable. I can drive for 2-3 days, then work for 3 days in banff or somewhere, then hit the road again. Then the same thing on the way back. That would be a nice little break and give me a lot more time to enjoy the trip.

2 weeks seems best I can do for now, just to try and sight see. 58 hour drive, so assuming we drive all day/night, make it there in 3 days, do our things, and drive 3 days back.

Blah, sounds awful though. I could swing a whole month off maybe, but damn. That would be my only vacation for the year, lol.

I already have my next road trip planned once we move to TX.

Austin > Denver > Boise > ???? CANADA??? > Alaska (Either through Canada or via ferry from Seattle) > Seattle > Down the coast through California > Baja Calif. included > (hazy here, unknown, might come back up for Vegas, or go through MX to get back into Texas, unknown, would be cool to swing through Tucson too) > Back to TX

Another thought: Austin > Tucson > Vegas > LA > Baja > Mexico up to El Paso > Home to Austin

And then I can also do: > Austin > Denver > Boise > Alaska situation as above > Coast road down and then come into Zion > ABQ > Austin

Okay, sweet I have one big road trip and one 2 week-ish road trip planned once we move to Texas. Geronimo!

Yeah, I read too fast. It's annoying.

4,700 miles, whew. My most was 2,600ish. KC to Padre Island to Houston back to KC.

If I go to AK I'm going all the way up like that too. That's why I think I want to try to ring road style it in from Canada as much as possible.

That's why I'm doing the ring approach, I was initially going to do Providence to Nashville but that would put about 7-8 hours down being on the same roads as the way back. Bleeeeh. No thanks. So I added more to it.

2600 miles is nothing. When I was traveling for work, I’d do 800-1000 miles a day solo pretty regularly lol

That trip I had my brother with and I still pretty much drove the whole thing.

We did a trip last year through the southwest and the longest day was a little over 1000 miles, 15 hours, 1 hour cumulative stopped time.

I have thought about getting an app set up for this road trip. As it is I'm just planning to hook up google maps and use that to drive. :notsure: but I might get something more advanced. We'll see.

My trip planned is 5855 miles.

Nothing indeed, I'm all for going further and further. I might have to plan trips solo or with someone else for some states as my roommate will not go to them because of gun laws. (Cali for example, Illinois as well)

I would like to record my route like @Shellshock image did. I think Gaia GPS does that + more.

I usually do long days at the beginning and the end so that way I can spend more time at the places I want to be. No sense wasting time in Nebraska and the dakotas.

Yeah you can do it with Gaia. I’ve got the inreach anyway, so its simple and then people can check up to see where I’m at. Gaia or any GPS can do logging.

I don't have any super long trips, don't really get to leave for extended periods unfortunately.

We did a run to get my RC51, Holt MO to Mansfield, OH and back.
732 miles each way, in 28 hours. Kinda like a Smokey and the Bandit run. Just with bike on a flatbed.

For sure, can't wait. Bought an 8inch tablet just for offline GPS stuff.

I'm down to plan a short trip for a weekend. That Shawnee National Forest or Ozark National Forest.
