I’m debating. Found a few they’re a lot cheaper but I’ll be sleeping back there, curious if they’re watertight enough for living in.

edit “living” If the bed setup works out I’ll build a small platform and get a small mattress back there for a few weeks. Current plan would be sleeping in the back seats...

The topper is waterproof as long as you treat the seams. I get water in the bed from other places like under the plastic bed rails and around the tailgate.

Yeah but the small amount that comes in with a softopper is totally manageable especially if you are sleeping on a platform like he said he wants to.

yeah, it’s also for two weeks not in the rainy seasons. So, I don’t think it’ll be bad. The way I see it, they’re “weatherproof” more than waterproof. At least enough for this trip.

Platform is tbd. I also might just sleep in the back seat for the nights it’s down pouring rain if needed. Probably just going to bring a yoga/workout mat and a sleeping bag and hope for the best. This is not luxury road tripping we’re talking about here :D

I got a padded mat that I use camping that is an absolute game changer, was like waking up in my bed. I don't have that exact version as I bought mine probably 7 years ago now? Damn time flies, but its the same brand and idea. Seriously, it was like sleeping in my bed! Got an extra wide sleeping bag for it and you have a full sized bed.

I’m hesitant to try inflatable stuff with my dog. We’ll see how this round goes and trust me I’ll report back.

unfortunately looks like I’ll miss the dust cloud. Not that I think it’s an attraction but it would be cool to add that I saw it. Oh well.

I’ve camped on it with the mat directly on rocks no marks left behind. They are legit.
But for sure figure out what you need before blowing cash left and right.

Try a 1 inch memory foam topper. We use an air mattress camping, but always use that on top of it. Once the air mattress busted so we just had the topper for the floor of the tent and still slept fine. Especially good since my wife has chronic back issues.

Thanks! Might give one a whirl if we do this with any sense of repetition. So far this will be the first time I’m going for this, and realistically the longest I’ll have ever. A few nights up in Maine is a lot different than two weeks.

I highly recommend it b/c it ain't gonna go flat unlike an air mattress. Just roll it up and wrap a bungee around it to store

Lots of flooding with all of this rain. I turned down one road and the water was up to my doors. It's the most off-road action my 4Runner has seen so far lol

We drove back from Plattsburgh today and drove through some pretty gnarly weather. Rain, high winds, hail, flash floods. I’ve been running out every so often between showers to bring things in from the camper. I was unhooking the camper and the skies opened up including some decent sized hail. Got trapped in the garage for a little while to let it pass. The ice pellets didn’t exactly feel good.

Who did I see travelling south on 93 yesterday in Canterbury NH, MA plates, gorgeous charcoal Gen 2 towing a military off-road trailer with a rooftop tent on it? Nice looking setup.

We've been raining steady since about 5PM yesterday. Perfect rain, nice and steady. Not before time, either. My rain collection system holds 500+ gallons and it's been empty for 2 weeks.
