You can access and install the p5f "tune" files because you bought the tune pack. The tune pack itself (when it's available) will also provide you with editable versions of the tune files.

Are you positive? I will happily delete the post if it turns out I’m wrong. I hope I am wrong and I didn’t waste that money.

From my understanding VFtune only come with the base editable tune. You get no access to the built tunes made by OVTune. The tunepack is whats supposed to give you the ones built by them.

yes you can, and you will get VFT versions too. Rafael is working on them so we can release VFT of these base 2.0 finals

    Let's say I'm 99% positive. Only @OVTune or @Rafael@OVTune can say 100%.

With tune packs you can flash both.
Without tune pack purchase you'e not licensed to flash either. You only have access to stock files to make your own tunes.

I left your post which was quoted in mine, because sometime in the future someone else is going to ask the exact same questions.

I guess that raises another question then @OVTune... when the editable tune packs become available, how will we be notified and how will we access them? I assume an email will be sent out

It’s a bit complicated. To tune with VF Tuner, you need VFTune, a cable, and an editable tune. When you purchase VF, you’ll get a base tune with minimal tweaks by OVTune. The ‘Tune Packs’ give you the various versions (2.0 and possibly prior... though that last was for people that already owned a flash kit and is getting a little vague now).

However, once the 2.0 VF tunes are out in the wild, you could conceivably get a copy of somebody’s edited 2.0 file. You would of course have to trust that it’s not been maliciously tweaked (or accidentally).

Mat has said as much, that VF tunes could be shared (or rather it was possible and up to individual discretion). He in fact alluded to people making modifications and selling them.

<edit> Mat’s on top of this thread and has already responded with clarifications.

Thanks for the info, I’m adding this to my notes for when I make a tutorial video. I don’t plan on making a video until I know the process inside and out though, I do not want to put out the wrong information.

Just to clarify - you get the stock tune in .vft format. There’s no tweaks to it.

When you buy the tune packs, you get the modified files.

(Admin please delete this post if not appropriate, I don't want to break any rules and get into trouble, just trying to post helpful info that is relevant to discussions in this thread.)

Techstream software requires a key to run that is based on your specific computer hardware OR it needs to be cracked. There are versions floating around here and there that are a bit older than current and include a key generator. Unfortunately the coding libraries used to compile the included keygen cause anti-virus programs to go nuts. Not wanting to take any chances I installed a VM and ran the keygen in the sandbox, then deleted the VM. Most people aren't that experienced or paranoid.

Wanting a newer version, I found a website that allows you to post your TS hardware key and they will generate a reciprocating key for you for free that doesn't involve any anti-virus alarms: mhh*auto.com/Forum-Automotive-Activation-Key-Codes-Requests (remove the asterisk * in domain and yes there are two h's.) I can neither confirm nor deny that I may or may not have created a fake gmail account and requested a key that may or may not have worked correctly for the latest version 15.x of TS software. You *MUST* first introduce yourself in this forum for some reason: mhh*auto.com/Forum-Introduce-Yourself (remove asterisk again.) Copy-n-paste underlined text into browser tab because not clickable.

I am neither encouraging or decrying the usage of such websites on the Internet and hope this post doesn't lend itself to derailing of thread topic.

Damn I wish I knew this sooner. I still don’t like that I bypassed that key gen application when it pops up with a picture of the Guy Fawkes mask and Windows Defender tells me it’s a Trojan

Good stuff. In some other TS and TSB threads, this has been posted and seemed to work well.

V15 is not yet needed for any Taco ECUs as V14 below allows customizations on the 2020s. V15 is needed for 2020 4runners though.

Not having to worry about the a/v issues is nice. If I find the need to update TS, I will follow your route.

No one has yet reported an issue other than the a/v warnings / quarantine problem. If there was a real virus threat or if someone has posted about any real exploitation, I would remove the share. There are some real IT monkeys that have used the current share and I do trust them and their assessment that the current version is safe to use.

    I’m not worried about it.

First time I did it with TS in a VM. Now its just on my tuning laptop Windows partition which doesn’t really see the world anyway.
