Well Dana is responsible for our rust bucket frames so I'm not sure that's a great idea.

Update, I visited a second dealer and took the service manager for a ride. He definitely listened to the whine from the back of the truck. He stated that it "wasn't Normal". He said it could be wind noise or harmonics as also possibly the diff. They would look into it Monday. I informed him of the low gear lube levels that the previous incompetent dealer Checked (1.25qts under filled) . He stated that at that low levels, because the diff angle changes at acceleration and cruise, and decel, that the pinion bearing could be toast from lack of lube. He didnt know.
    Maybe, maybe!....
Regarding a previous post about the carrier bearing (drive shaft support) , Has there been an attempt to place a rubber bushing or grommet at the carrier mounting bolts for vibration isolation from the bed? Im grasping at straws.

My own experience with the oil levels in differentials is it'd have to be way lower a 1 1/4 qts. to cook the bearings. The gear oil gets splashed around pretty good giving those gears, and bearings a good bath. From what i've read these taco rear ends hold at least 4 qts.

I coated the undercarriage with Fluid Film and the drone has been greatly reduced. Conversely, I have made this same statement in the past and other posters reported that their drone increased after applying Fluid Film. So, who knows ?

Not sure if this is any help but I am getting a slight version of this issue on my 2015. I know its a 2nd gen but I have a build date of 6/15. TRD sport.

55-65 I notice a slight higher pitched howling if I feather the throttle. If I accelerate it goes away, If I fully let of the gas it goes away. I can get it to do it if I slightly feather the throttle around these speeds. Its not nearly as loud as some on here. It sounds spot on to this you tube clip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1Q20DbH4qU

I bough the truck as a CPO a few months ago(58k miles). I just recently started noticing it. Most likely has been there but I just now am picking up on it. I know it doesn't make sense but I seemed to notice it right after I removed the cheap tonneau cover the truck came with.

That's because this whine TSB was also issued for the second gens.

Not the best example. Mine would be hard to capture too. If you turn it up and listen closely you'll hear it. I'm half deaf from fire arm training and I can still hear it haha.

I have the howl from 45ish to 60ish mph. I just ignore it. I've had it from roughly 1000 miles onward. I drained and replaced the rear diff gear oil at 5000 miles and still have it at 16,600 miles. At 5000 miles the fluid was perfectly clear with no discernable metal 'glitter'. Looked brand new. I think it's an annoyance more than a durability issue.

Just had my 2019 looked at for rear diff noise. Dealership contacted their field rep and the next day they called and said they're approved to replace the rear differential. The field rep also said this may not fix the issue and they are aware of this and are in the works for a solid fix to this issue for all 3rd gen Tacomas that experience it.

Well see how this goes. Fingers crossed

Boy wouldn't that be nice... Us SR5 guys have been left out of this entire thing. I had to pay for the TSB parts myself. If they did actually make a fix I bet I would be excluded again..

halle-f***-lujah!!!!! So many upset people would calm down if they would just inform us of their plans. I was right on the verge of lifting and doing mud terrain to drowned the sound out. How pissed off I would’ve been if I proceeded and disqualified myself from a fix.

    how loud was yours?

I don't want piss in your cheerios but I had similar issues with a Silverado. I had the chevy shake issue like thousands did. Sometimes GM would admit there was an issue and would tell people they were working on a fix. Come to find out that it had to do with the harmonics of the chassis and it really wasn't fixable. Gm kept stringing it along until people were out of warranty and just tried to sweep it under the rug. Same is happening here. You cant tell me that after 4 years they don't have a solid fix for this. They know whats going on.

Well, Update this afternoon, Dealer's service dept Rep called me And gave me a summarized report. He stated that they had contacted Toyo tech assistance, (Field rep?) and have ordered a new rear diff for my truck. The diff should be in tomorrow morning and they may be finished as soon as tomorrow evening. I hope this is a solution. I know through others postings here that I may regret this action basically making things worse as for volume and noise freq. I hope not. It seems to be a coin toss, Heads you lose, tails you may still lose. If it is the same or worse , Ill prob. be trading the truck in on something else.
