Did you fold the tent up wet? If my CVT is folded up wet the mattress can wick moisture from the tent into itself.

Yes, it will. Also, any blankets or pillows you leave in the tent will also wick up moisture from the tent. It really sucks because here on the East Coast it's rains a lot or there is heavy dew in the morning. So if you want to get up and hit the road, your tent (and all the contents) stay wet continuously. One trip, it rained every night for 7 days and each day was cloudy (we were also moving everyday so I couldn't stop long enough to open the tent to air out). I could not get the tent to dry out. It was horrible. That's the thing I dislike about my RTT the most. It seems like it was designed for a place that doesn't get rain and doesn't have bugs (the mesh on the doors and windows is so huge that small fly bugs can get through it).

100% accurate. Best solution I’ve found is we keep a cheap tarp folded up under the mattress. If we fold up a wet tent we fold the mattress in half before we fold up the tent, then wrap the mattress and bedding with the tarp. Keeps things dryer but not totally dry.

I’ll give some of the above mentioned things a try. Thanks TW!! I think the holes in the protective cover are the main problem. I’ve patched them on both sides so we shall see if water still gets in. I’ve also washed the mattress cover and left the foam out side in the sun for the past 24+ hours now. And opened the tent it self.

Has anybody used one of those blue tarps and bungee cords as extra protection when the tent is closed? I thought about getting one for an added layer of protection.
    Cheers.

I'm not about to tell someone how to spend their money or camp, but a cot tent is a little cheaper.

You should be able to buy a new cover from the company that made your tent. In my experience patches dont last too long on those covers

Depends on what it's patched with and how. River runners patch rafts that are made of basically the material all the time, and they last for years.

oh 100%. I was assuming OP had a RTT and wanted to keep it. Personally I dont have that kind of money to burn for something like that.

Picked up a CVT Mt. Bachelor a few weeks ago. Did a trial night in the driveway. It was really nice and I’m definitely going to plan a few weekend trips this summer. I slept decent in it, but the old lady had some complaints. Any tips and tricks to make it a bit more comfortable? She said she needed more support/softer mattress.

My wife had the same complaints with our CVT. I went with the Tepui luxury mattress. I find it’s great and very comfortable. Others have good things to say about the Exped.

Thanks for the show. Way expensive. Also, as others have noted a tent would work as well. Cool idea though.

Lots of dollars and no sense...

If getting up into and out of the tent during normal times are alright for her then get the tent. My lovely lady and I use pee jugs. They make a female shaped one and then she pours it into the big jug I use. We drink pretty heavily when using the tent so lots of pee breaks during a nights sleep. If she can pee while on her knees and will then you're golden.

    Hey y'all.

Started a build thread here https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/build-thread-do-everything-sacrifice-nothing.674136/

Ran into an issue with the canvas topper tent combo,

    Current "Issue":

With the Aero bars, and the Roof top tent, it is diverting air down after my cab, straight into the canvas window which causes flapping at highway speeds. I'm thinking a fairing or.. maybe the basket would create a bubble so the air would flow over the tent..

The canvas window also has magnets on the bottom, but the gen3 has a plastic lip that extends further than the depth the canvas hangs so it doesn't stick much. I have thought about clamping a bar around the front of the bed to give the magnets more stick, or tying it down somwhere under the bed with Paracord so it keeps it taught.

I was debating getting a roof basket or Prinsu/Rino rack already, do you think it would get the wind over the tent?

Looking for opinions of the 23zero brand....specifically the walkabout 62. I have no experience with Rtt’s.
