I have no idea how some of these guys are getting the gas mileage they do. I have a mostly stock truck, Pro suspension, 4Runner TRD Pro wheels, and 265-70-17 KO2’s and I get 14-15 in the city and 18ish on the highway driving 75mph with the cruise control on. No armor, winch, or anything. It’s only my second day with OV Tune, maybe that will make it better? No idea, but I don’t ever see 21mpg in the future.

Seems like everyone is a little unsure on how they like the new 2.0 version - its making me hesitant to flash my truck with it.

I'm still using the 2.0 beta, 91 octane 4.88 tune from August 2019 and I love it. Was hoping to flash to the new version since I'm moving up to 35" tires but I may just wait a bit now.

04A61, completely stock OR using the premium THX file. Tuned with about half a tank, and am about to finish my first full tank. I would have to check the other trip odo for the mileage since the tune (should be well over 600 mi), but am about to hit 380mi on this tank (dash says about 10mi to fill) with average tank economy of 21.9. I didn't try and drive nice, I actually was hitting the gas pretty hard trying to hit redline a few times to learn new values. No difference in where I drove the past week just the usual weekly driving. I am blown away at how much better the truck drives and how much my gas mileage improved. Before 2.0 I was lucky to get 19 on the 1.5.1 tune. was not expecting an increase in mileage at all, certainly never though I would see any mileage that resembled anything that was on the actual sticker.

I do a 50/50 mix of city highway I stay at about 70-75 on the highway, usually use the adaptive cruise.

Don't worry. I'm the same. I think region And driving style has a lot to do with it. Some places have long stretches of 55mph which is perfect for this truck. Me personally, I usually do 80-85 everywhere and get ~16 mph.

Others, myself included, have reported similar results with the exception I don't use cruise. OVTUNE definitely nailed it with 04A61 2.0 final.

That’s about the best you can expect when running above 70mph

Lame. I don’t know how Toyota rates them at 23mpg highway when most highway speeds in the country are between 65-80.

The tests are done at 55 mph. If you actually do 55 mph, these trucks do pretty well. If you do 75, not so much.

Yah, my tires are not E rated, which makes a big difference. I also run an oil catch can, not sure if that actually helps or doesn’t...I try to coast when I can and feather the throttle on the highway. Even at 80mph here in Idaho I can still get 17-18

Latest 2.0 final 04B04 (3-tanks of premium in) - Just got 23 on a 100-mile round trip yesterday with the family loaded up. 245/75r16, stock + bed cover. Air damn long gone. Traveling 60-70 and another catch can vote (@SpeySquatch). I was not driving aggressive but certainly like others have said getting up over 75 and pushing it or adding more gear is going to tank it.

IMO trying to push this square front end above 75 drastically reduces mpg.

If I remember my aerodynamics from 40+ years ago, drag increases something like to the cube of speed increase. Double the speed, drag increases by a factor of eight. With our Tacoma’s, we’re pushing a brick.

my experience with stock tires is that the car will eat up gas over 68 on the highway. I used to get 23 highway before larger tires.

I’ve gotten 20ish at those speeds. But as soon as I got off the highway all the city driving killed the milage

OG user here. Been tuned since 1.02 back in December 2017. Currently running 2.0 final, premium, 33" tire tune. Tires are 275 70 17 KO2s. Honestly, this tune is perfect. I have probably 700 miles on it now and it has smoothed right out. My fuel econ has gone up, previously the best I could get was 17 mpg, now I get 19 if I'm driving normally. The truck still feels a little sluggish, but honestly that won't be fixed with just a tune. I still plan on going the twin turbo route once the bugs are worked out, but until then this tune is perfect.
P.S. If you want to go fast, put it in S mode and keep your RPMs above 4k. These trucks can move when they're in the sweet spot.
