Hello, just got my first Tacoma, a 2020 SR5 double-cab 4x4 short bed w/auto transmission. Great truck so far, except for the vibration. I notice it on deceleration from about 25-10mph. Feels like rumble strips, knobby tires, etc. I've seen other posts on this, so I did what I could... called the dealer and took it in. They had it in the bay for all of 15 minutes before coming out to tell me it's normal, they all do it, and let me drive another 2020, which did the same thing. So I called Toyota Consumer number to create a case... they were very nice but, of course, had never heard of this issue.

I've been doing a lot of research on what it could (and couldn't) be. Brakes don't seem to be it as the truck vibrates regardless of whether or not I'm braking - and it also does it if I shift to N while slowing down.

I see Woods makes a one-piece drive shaft... I'm intrigued by this idea but am not sure I know enough to know if the stock carrier bearing and 2-piece shaft is indeed the culprit here. Has anyone tried a one-piece shaft on a stock Tacoma? Results? Other ideas? Much appreciated.

I have a 2020 TRD OR DCSB, and haven’t noticed any type of vibration you are referring to. I don’t, however, have the OEM tires on , switched to 265/75R16’s shortly after purchase. Could it be tire related?

Welcome to the club. Toyota knows about the issue. There’s tsbs our for it. Some models the tsb hasn’t been extended to. There’s a 50 page thread on tw.

Sir I’m perplexed . You drove another and it still had it. Maybe it’s just how it is. It may be present in all Tacoma’s but some owners are just sensitive to it and notice and some are like me not too sensitive and just drive and enjoy their ride . Hope you find a solution and eventually enjoy your awesome new taco.

Yes, I am perplexed as well. However, a brief Google search will show results that this is an issue others have experienced. I know, nothing is perfect and many may think I'm overreacting. I just figured this was the place to ask the questions. Many thanks.

Thanks for posting those threads. It's both encouraging and discouraging to see that: A) others are having the same issue but B) there doesn't seem to be a singular fix for it.

There was some slight vibration on my 2020 sr5 v6 auto ac when braking to a stop when very new...It wouldn't happen when shifting the transmission in neutral. I just attributed it to the converter in the tranny. After a thousand miles or so it completely went away, plus the entire truck just worked a lot better. I can't complain really much about anything except the ride quality could be better. I plan to keep this truck all stock as much as possible.

What you are describing I had as well. It is likely the driver CV needle bearing. They are garbage, I went thru 2 of them. ECGS makes a clamshell bushing replacement

yeah the tacos seem to get some crazy issues, the crazy part is what seems to fix one does nothing for another.

i started a new thread on my particular instance of the vibe-

my vibe happened from 36mph or so down to 20mph or so WHILE braking. If i didn't brake, no vibes.

i won't bore everyone with the details, you can search for my new thread yourself if you want those, but my fix seems to be either tire rotation or fluids in the diffs and xfer case because i did the rotation and fluids all at the same time and the issue is now gone for 400+ miles. perhaps somethign on the tires are wearing funny over time causing the issue? i dunno. i just know mines gone for now.

Sounds similar to what i experienced. I never had any vibrations without the brakes applied either...did you try putting it in neutral while applying the brakes? The vibration was no longer there with mine. As my truck got more miles on it, the vibration during braking just went away, and hasn't come back.

Thanks, I will look for that thread.

Incidentally, just spoke with Will at ECGS and he recommended putting it in 4WD and seeing if it still vibrates. If it does not vibrate, then it's most likely the CV needle bearing as SpeySquatch said. (thanks for that advice, btw). Will try that this evening after work and see what happens...

@zootruck I hope this diminishes as the truck breaks in. Time will tell.

i did and it was still there. it was obvious. now, it's not there. i have driven too many miles with it not vibrating since the tire rotation for it to be a coincidence..

I have a 2020 TRDOR DCLB and experience the same issues. Luckily for me my dealership said there is something wrong with it. Opened a case with Toyota. They originally thought it was due to bad rear drums. So they sent had them re-surfaced twice which didn't fix the issue. Had the GM drive it and he admitted there's definitely some shaking. They opened a case with Toyota and they think it's due to the leaf springs.

Interesting. I have also contacted Toyota North America and opened a case, however they told me they were unaware of the issue.

The GM was a straight forward dude luckily. Have you popped it in neutral and then come to a stop? I remember this stopping the issue. Obviously only while in neutral.
