Fox Shocks keep leaking

Have you tried repositioning them then retightening the nut on the upper bushing? I haven't seen this happen to anyone else. If all else fails maybe find a plastic sleeve of some sort to put over the hose where it is making contact with the frame.

 

It's actually pretty common. It will still happen after tightening to spec. It's been so long and I've done so many lift installs, but I think it calls to tighten until the top bushing compress 1/4"?

Either way, the standard process again is to look under your truck ever couple of weeks and go...

Then put the resi hose in split loom:

Keep in mind there's nothing to prevent the shock body from spinning in operation, since the top mount is a stud rather than a clevis.

 

I've always hated the install instructions for these shocks too.

REAR - INSTRUCTIONS
Medium-strength thread-lock (blue Loctite®) is
recommended on all bolts.
1. Please read the installation guidelines
for instructions on how to properly lift
and secure the vehicle.
2. Remove rear wheels from vehicle.
3. Remove the stock shocks. (Do not
discard lower bolt as it will be used
with your new FOX shock)
4. Connect the Fox shock to the top
vehicle mount with a stem bushing
and washer on top and bottom, hand
tighten. For remote reservoir models;
make sure passenger side hose is
facing outward and toward REAR of
vehicle, driver side facing outward and
towards FRONT of vehicle (Fig. 6).
5. Connect Fox shock to the lower mount
using factory bolt. Torque to factory
specifications.
6. Tighten top locking nut until 5/8’’ of
total stem is showing.





^I've gone way past that and I've still had mine rotate. Just for giggles OP would you get a Pic of your stem with a tape measure?

 

Also, I think this may be the replacement part. I'll do more research tomorrow to make sure.

mine rotated too, just the driver side and the hose hit the tire. I noticed the noise so I investigated it, and quickly found the hose in contact with the tire. I reached in to the wheel well, turned the shock, and continued on my trip. I ordered the reservoir brackets too to avoid this. My top bolts are tightened to 5/8” just like instructed. I’m not losing sleep over it. I just take a peek whenever I go somewhere.

 

Is there a minimum bend radius that could negatively impact the hose? or cause to rotate?

 

That's a good point. Too far away from the reservoir and it'll have a tendency to rub on the shock bucket, too close and it'll rub on the tire.

 

The hose won't hit the tire, it'd only be the reservoir.

It's very easy to install these and adjust them on the truck so that the fitting clears the shock mount and the reservoir won't interfere with the tire, with no resistance from the hose.

 

I hate to be "that guy", but mine have been solid and haven't moved after ~1500 off-road miles...

 

Oddly enough I have floats on RR and they've been fine. Ride stiff but I knew that getting an RR. Also have them on my SxS and they've been great so far.

 

The weight of your resi isn't on the body.



I wouldn't say it's as much of a question with the OP of if they rotated, more just that you need to keep an eye on your gear and inspect it routinely. They are aftermarket parts. And while they are known ot move for some people, it normally doesn't happen in one trip.

 

Correct, and I should've elaborated...remote mounting the reservoir likely solves the issue.

 

I will never buy Fox again. First 2.5 they sent me had the wrong springs (tundra springs), then the next had issues also, when I finally got the 3rd set I just cut my losses and went with king. It took them months to sort things out for me for a product that was bad out of the box. Fox fan boys with argue up and down that 'You' are the problem but my Kings have zero issues and my ADS's on my 4runner have zero issues. The quality has just gone down hill in my experience.

Never again am I putting myself through that stress, I even sent them their stupid stickers back.

Its whatever. I like their MTB shocks. They have always seemed great. I still have fox 2.0 on the rear of my truck. I sent them in to acctune to get tuned and they ride pretty well but I don't make enough money to spend 1500+ on some coilovers and the company act like I owe them something to get a working product. Fernando is about the most helpful person there too. Really nice guy. Some of those people are useless.

 

What other issue did you have besides the wrong spring? Was the original purchase directly from fox?

 

Mine don't turn, although I have heard of that being an issue I haven't encountered it. I can barely turn mine by hand once they are tightened

 

The Spring did not test out, or something of the sort and they replaced a couple of other parts. They send you a entire Bill of Materials after service. I was getting a terrible clunking noise then when I put my 6112's back on it immediately went away. They said the springs test closer to 490-500lb's if i remember correctly (bad mix with an already short 13 inch spring). Fox does not sell directly so I purchased them from a vender (who is here on TW) who has been helpful so I have left their name out of it.
